Ohio State players finish Pro Day
Thirteen players from Ohio State's undefeated 2012 season worked out for NFL scouts this morning at OSU's Pro Day, and some Buckeyes appeared to have helped themselves.
There are no "official" statistics kept as each team records its own times.
Safety Orhian Johnson deliberately bulked up a little to 215 pounds but still ran a 4.5 and seemed happy with that.
"Anytime you get to come out here and compete, I get amped up for it," Johnson said. "Things like this, where I can show my athleticism, I think I excel at. I always feel like I can do better. I know putting on a little more weight made my 40 a little slower, but I feel I stil ran fast enough to show I can cover those tight ends and those slots when I need to."

Johnson had a more prominent college career, though it wasn?t until last year that he began to fulfill his promise consistently. He played the nickel back as well as safety position, giving him versatility that could make him attractive to NFL teams.
?It boosted my confidence through the ceiling and let me display the kind of player I really am,? Johnson said.
He was content with his 4.5 time in the 40 because he recently purposefully added almost about six pounds to his lean frame. He now weighs about 216.

Orhian Johnson, DB (6-2 5/8 216 pounds) ? Johnson didn?t take part in the combine, but he posted a decent best time of 4.56 in the 40. He also had a 10-foot-10 broad jump. Johnson might hear his name called at the draft. If not, he probably will be a priority free agent.

Orhian Johnson is not a conventional NFL draft prospect. Although he was a contributing player on the Ohio State defense for each year of his four-year career, he never became a full-time starter, spending the past two seasons as the third safety behind C.J. Barnett and Christian Bryant.
Given that Johnson was a role player for the Buckeyes, he won?t be targeted by NFL teams as a potential starting safety, but he could draw interest as a potential late-round pick as a backup safety who can be a role player and has the experience, skill and athletic ability to contribute on special teams.
I asked Johnson about his confidence on whether he will be selected on Day 3 of the draft.
?I feel confident because I went out there (at Ohio State?s pro day) and I weighed in at what I wanted to weigh in,? Johnson said. ?I feel like I did everything that the scouts wanted to know from me and wanted to see from me, and I feel pretty confident in what I showed them.?
Johnson proved at Ohio State?s pro day that he has very solid measurables. Johnson has very good size at 6?3? and 215 pounds, ran a solid 40-yard dash in the 4.5-second range, and excelled in the jumps with a 38.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump.
Johnson looks the part of a strong safety, which would be his best position at the next level. He is a good athlete and solid tackler who can make plays on the ball.
Johnson said he doesn?t necessarily see himself in one specific position, but in his own evaluation, he believes he does many things well.
?I love roaming in the back end, and just reading the quarterback, playing on the ball, I feel like I track the ball well,? Johnson said. ?And then I enjoy sometimes being down there in the box, in those clutch situations where it?s, you know, fighting for those first downs and you need to get a stop on third down. And I enjoy covering in man-to-man coverage.
?Regardless of where you put me, I?ll go out there and try to make a play,? Johnson said.

Tampa --
Former Boca Ciega standout Orhian Johnson, who is getting ready for the upcoming NFL Draft, spent a day last week working out at One Buc Place.
"I had a great workout there," Johnson said. "It would be a dream come true for me to play for the Buccaneers."
Johnson, who started on and off his senior year for Ohio State says he is being projected as a 4th-6th round pick. He measures out suitably for the NFL at 6-2, 215 pounds. He has long arms and great football instincts.
According to NFL.com, his weaknesses are dealing with smaller, quicker slot receivers. Johnson did run a 4.5, 40 yard dash at a recent Ohio State pro day.
His Buckeye career consisted of 6 interceptions, 11 pass break-ups, 131 career tackles and 23 total starts.
The Bucs are still reportedly in pursuit of Darrelle Revis. If that deal falls through, could Johnson be part of the plan to move on without Revis?
"I think I could be a great fit here at home," Johnson added. "I can be that nickel cornerback who comes in and makes key plays."
Johnson was a US Army All-American at Boca Ciega and played for former Tampa Bay Storm star Stevie Thomas during his tenure there. He was a 4A all-state selection and named to the Pinellas all-county team. If he were selected by the Bucs, Johnson would become the third local prep star to suit up in the current secondary joining Lakeland's Ahmad Black and Largo's Leonard Johnson.
The Texans also placed rookie safety Orhian Johnson, out of Ohio State, on the non-football injury list. He and Montgomery will count against the Texans? active roster, according to the NFL?s transaction wire.
