According to Colts.com writer Andrew Walker, Hooker has found his rhythm with Eberflus in training camp.
“I would say that he's had good practices,” Eberflus said. “I thought he really did a nice job of hustling and angles to the football. For the most part, when you dial in in terms of the all-encompassing (evaluation), I thought he's done a nice job so far. We're happy where he is and he's in a good spot.”
The Colts are looking for better production in their secondary this season. They added NFL veteran Xavier Rhodes to secure a starting cornerback spot. He comes over from the Minnesota Vikings and brings experience to the position.
However, they are counting on guys like Hooker to slow down talented AFC offenses. Hooker has shown the ability to disrupt the passing game with 11 pass breakups. Now, he aims to put it all together in his fourth year. He has a good reason as the Colts declined his fifth-year option in the offseason.
“It was more so like a motivation call for me,” Hooker told Colts reporters. “I have to go out there and prove myself type of thing. It is more so me having to show the consistency I had last year and show it more often.”
Eberflus is liking what Hooker is putting on tape so far. He believes the safety is on the same track as he finished last season.
“He's just going to keep working,” Eberflus said. “Like, last training camp was his best training camp and he started off the season really strong, and he's on that same track and we're excited where he is.”
While Hooker enters the last year of his rookie deal, he is determined to make an impact for the team. He looks forward to watching the team shine with new pieces in the fold.
“I have to find a create more turnovers,” Hooker said. “It doesn’t have to be interceptions, but find a way to create more fumbles this year. I am trying to be that vet out there that can lead vocally.”
