S/LB Tyler Moeller (official thread)

Tyler had a rough day today from what I saw, he struggled getting off his blocks which really helped Toledo on a number of those swing screens (And he even admitted as such).

I'm wondering if part of it may be rust. He hasn't played much football the past 3 years, and missed all of the spring and most of fall camp. Regardless, hopefully he can get back on track and play to the level he's accustomed to.

Keep in mind that the guy has had the kinds of injuries that don't let you do a lot of strength training. He may still be getting back to his former conditioning level. What weight is he currently listed as?

Edit: nvm. Found it. Official roster has him at 210, which is definitely light for him.

I remember a video interview with him at the beginning of camp, and he said he was at 221 then. He looked a little bit out of shape from some of the check-in pictures; maybe he's just not in football shape yet? I've definitely been surprised by how little of an impact he's made so far. The guy was all over the place the first few games of last season.

Then why is he playing?

People are making excuses for him. He isn't playing the way he did last year. At this time last year his head was on fire and he had to be accounted for at all times by opposing offenses.

Ohio State football: Tyler Moeller working back to form

COLUMBUS ? Everybody wants to know what is wrong with Tyler Moeller.

For once, the answer is "nothing.'

A sixth-year senior, Moeller has recorded two tackles in two games for the Buckeyes.

Moeller (6-foot, 210 pounds) is listed as a linebacker on Ohio State's roster, but is the starting "star" defensive back, which is considered a combination of a nickel back who can move down into the box to play against the run.

"Hopefully I'll get a few opportunities to make a couple turnovers, and you guys will start liking me again," said Moeller on Tuesday when meeting with media in Columbus.

Confidence Man
Tyler Moeller has been through a lot in his time at Ohio State, but he has grown as a person ? and as a personality

Tyler Moeller has blossomed in his nearly six seasons at Ohio State.

As a football player? Well, yes he?s emerged there, too, overcoming two catastrophic injuries ? one life-threatening ? along the way.

But the emergence of his public persona ? from the standoffish, little-to-say player of four or five years ago to the self-critiquing, sometimes comedic man of today ? also has gained notice.

Before the Miami game a few weeks ago, he had a quick comeback to a roomful of reporters who were asking him about his slow start to the season, in which he has nine tackles in four games as a frequently used nickel back.

?Hopefully I?ll get a few more opportunities to make a couple turnovers and you guys will start liking me again,? Moeller said.

The comment drew laughs, but there was a time not long ago when Moeller?s comfort zone was well outside the spotlight. Reporters? questions often drew a sheepish smile and as few words as possible.

In discussing the public Tyler Moeller of then and now, his mother offered some insight.

?Part of it, and I heard him say this one time, is that he didn?t feel he had the right to talk about the team until he was playing, until he was a contributor,? Amy Moeller said. ?Once he was confident in playing, he sort of embraced his role of talking with the media.?
