A linebacker with speed to burn and a sister on The Hill is hoping to get a scholarship offer from the University of Tennessee this week.

Tyler Moeller is a 6-1, 205-pounder with 4.5 speed who registered 120 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior last fall at Colerain High School of Cincinnati. He already has scholarship offers from a couple of excellent football programs but UT isn’t one of them.

“Iowa and Virginia Tech thought enough of me to offer a scholarship early in the process,” he told Chris Pool of Scout.com. “I’d consider Ohio State or Tennessee if they offered me a scholarship but that doesn’t consume me.”

Moeller, known as “Taz” due to his knack for wreaking havoc on the football field, says UT coaches are deciding this week whether or not to offer him a scholarship. If the Vols do, he will be tempted to accept, since his sister is a communications major at Tennessee who does some work for ESPN during Vol home football games.

“Tennessee is definitely a school that I would consider,” Moeller said. Until the Vols make a firm scholarship offer, however, he can’t consider them one of his leaders.

“My favorites are Iowa, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati and Miami (Ohio),” he said.

Tech, like Tennessee, emphasizes a swarming defense built around speed. That has the Hokies at the top of Moeller’s list. “I love Virginia Tech’s defense and their special teams,” he said. “I also thought Virginia Tech had a beautiful campus. Virginia Tech called me on the very last day that they could call during the spring and told me that they just watched my tape and decided to offer me a scholarship.” Moeller expects to make his decision in the next few months. First, though, Tennessee’s coaches have to make a decision of their own: Should they offer or should they wait?

How about the fac that his nickname is Taz? If he ends up at Tennessee, he could be going up against our other favorite Taz, Ronnie Wilson...

By Chris Pool...Tyler has a leader but is not ready to announce who it is. His favorites are Iowa, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati and Miami (OH), although Tennessee is supposed to let himk now very soon if they are going to offer. He says he will consider Tennessee or Ohio State if they offer.

From the article, it sounds like it's either Iowa or Virginia Tech in the lead...my money is on Iowa...

Boy, his recruitment sure picked up quickly! If Pool's right, you gotta think we're the team to beat for him now, until Tennessee offers... then the plot will thinken even further.

Gonna be an interesting decision for him at the end of August with tOSU, Tenn, Iowa, Louisville, Va Tech in the mix...

Ok...where to begin?

1) I could have scooped Pool by about 5 hours...Unfortunatley, Administrators to this web site have not returned ANY of my emails regarding my problems with my password and email address to GET a new password...So, if anybody who reads this can help...PLEASE PM ME! :(

2) Tyler has NOT verballed to anybody (I am pretty sure Iowa was his leader) because he has been holding out for OSU to take notice...

3) Tyler should be in Columbus on Thursday or Friday of this week or early next week to visit.

4) People close to Tyler read this board on a regular basis.....so, if you wish to show Bobby Boucher (I refuse to call him 'Taz'...mostly because I nicknamed him 'The Waterboy' and because it was an Iowa coach who gave him the 'Taz' name. ) some love...Now is the time to do it.

I am very happy that Tyler got this offer. I told him a month ago that Mixon's soft verbal to tsun would mean that Tyler became the next LB target of the Bucks...and if you could have seen the look on his face when he heard that...then you would understand what it means to dream of being a Buckeye....now, please, don't take that for Tyler WILL be a Buckeye...Iowa and VT have done a wonderfull job of selling him on what his role will be in their defenses (Iowa-Rush End/Weak side LB...VT-Rover)...But I know this offer means a lot and he will certainly give JT and his staff his undivided attention.

Way to go, Tyler...Colerain is proud of you!

Great news! I was hoping that Tyler would get his offer after following himthis past season. While Iowa, V Tech, and Tennessee may appear intriguing initially, there is truly nothing better than having an offer from Tyler's home state school.

Tyler is going to be a great OLB. I see him as our next "Cie Grant", coming off the edge to take out the next "Ken Dorsey" to close out our 4th NC of the decade. His combination of speed, instincts, and aggression is just what we look for.

Think about it, guys. 1.5 hours from home...close enough to see family and friends, but far enough to truly be independent. 4 Years maximizing your football potential, while learning great life lessons from Coach Tressel.
Attending one of the Top 5 National football programs of the past century, which also happens to be a terrific school, with top-notch programs in virtually every field of study. Which of us wouldn't jump at that chance?

In terms of the campus experience, Iowa is not even in the same league. Blacksburg is pretty, but limited. I spent 8 years walking to class and having fun on the South Oval and The Oval at OSU, and I can assure you, there is no better place to spend your fall season...both in terms of the weather and beauty, in addition to the incredible energy level. I'd go back for more if I could.

I hope Tyler makes the trip this week. I think he'll see what I mean!

Go Bucks!

Congratulations to Tyler on the offer. Love to see the Bucks keep the big-timers in state, and Mr. Moeller is obviously proving that he is a big-timer with his performances in camps supplementing his proof on the field! The Bucks can be fairly selective at offering LB's this year, and the fact that they offered means a lot.

Before you head to the campus of your choice, go and do Ohio proud by pounding the Texas RB's and QB into the turf this fall, too! Kind of like a preview of the next level.
