He looked to be in a lot of pain coming off the field last night. For those that didn't see the play, Kurt tackled Jason Witten last night on his way to the end zone. They were both running full speed in the open field and Kurt hit him around the waste to take him down just short of the goal line. It didn't look like a huge collision but Kurt looked like he was reluctant to move his upper body coming off the field. Hope he recovers quickly.

'Vocal' Coleman earns Bowles' praise, if nobody else's

Kurt Coleman hasn?t heard very many people sing his praises, especially outside the NovaCare Complex.
But the opinion that matters most to Coleman came Thursday from defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who singled out the third-year safety?s leadership and lunch-pail mentality to explain the decision to start Coleman over Nate Allen for Sunday?s game against the Redskins.
?Kurt, right now, is more vocal. And we talked to Nate. Nate needs to be a little bit more vocal, a little bit more decisive and at the time we think Kurt is the best way to go,? Bowles said. ?Colt [Anderson] has been playing well and really didn?t want to sit Kurt down. It was a tough choice. Nate is going to play but Kurt going into the game, probably from an experience factor and knowledge factor, is just a little bit ahead of him.?
Coleman, who missed the past two games with a sternum injury, will team with Anderson to comprise the starting safety tandem in the home finale. Allen, a second-round pick who has struggled in his third season, could rotate in.
?It?s nice to know the coaches respect me and how I play the game and what I can bring to the table,? Coleman said. ?This team?s a family. I would have fully understood if they wanted to keep Nate and Colt in there. Colt has definitely played well the past two games and earned a spot and I?m about winning, so whatever it takes. As far as what [Bowles] said about me, it?s nice to know, but I?ve got to continue to get better and help this team as much as possible.?

Kurt Coleman on the Eagles new defense: "The offense doesn't know where we are coming from"

In the first few weeks of the Eagles offseason program, the team's offense has been the main topic of discussion. With players hitting the field without pads, the offensive playmakers are able to shine without the threat of a hit, but Eagles safety Kurt Coleman believes the the team's new defense could be the unit that turns heads on gameday.
Coleman spoke to reporters on Monday after practice, and said the defense will be a force to be reckoned with."I like this defense. The offense doesn't know where we are coming from," said Coleman with a certainty. "We're giving the same look and bringing different people every single time."
The fourth-year defensive back knows that he and the rest of the Andy Reid holdovers have a lot to prove to the new coaching staff. He says the unit needs to finish games and play to their talent level. "The whole defense, we did not play up to our potential (last year)," said the Ohio State alum. "We'd make plays then give up plays (later). We weren't always on the same page, so I am not going to make excuses."
A 2010 seventh-round pick, Coleman has started 29 of the 44 games he has played in since entering the league. While he has been able to put up a decent stat line over the last three seasons (207 tackles, 11 pass deflections, seven interceptions and two forced fumbles), his performance in games has drawn criticism from Eagles fans due to his inconsistencies. Coleman admits he needs to improve. "You gotta be able to run, you gotta tackle, you gotta make plays when (the ball) comes your way," said Coleman. "I believe that no matter what you're doing, you have to play football."
Still, Coleman knows 2013 will be a big indicator of his future in the league. He thinks Billy Davis's scheme will help him improve both his performance and his paycheck. "I gotta be able to work on every single part of my game and this (new defense) is going to get me paid, and get me some interceptions," said Coleman with a smile.
In order for Coleman's premonitions to come true, he will have make the team, which has a crowded safety unit. Either way, it sounds like he is coming into the competition with the right mindset.

Before Kurt Coleman became a safety for the Eagles, there was 2006.
It was the year he nearly quit playing football after tackling a friend and teammate during spring drills of his freshman season at Ohio State. It was a hit so devastating that it left Tyson Gentry paralyzed.
It was the year he nearly lost his father. Ron Coleman was diagnosed with stage 2 male breast cancer close to Thanksgiving.
Kurt Coleman learned a lot that year, particularly perspective. Mostly, it strengthened him spiritually.
?Football is a platform for me to serve a greater purpose,? he said. ?I know God has given me talent and ability to do amazing things, and it?s not just play football.
?I love playing football. I feel I?m very good at it. I can get better, but I know I can do a lot more outside the realm of the gridiron.?
The most bitter of Eagles fans would say it is time for Coleman to begin living outside the realm of the football field, unhappy that he hasn?t become the next Brian Dawkins.
It is too convenient to forget that Coleman was the team?s second-leading tackler last year with 105 of them, and that despite missing two games with a chest contusion.
It is too easy to forget that Coleman was a seventh-round draft pick yet has made 29 career starts, collected 229 tackles and seven interceptions, including a three-pick performance two seasons ago that made him the first Eagle since 1966 to make three interceptions in a game.
