S Jordan Fuller (All B1G, 3x Academic All-American, Super Bowl Champion, Carolina Panthers)

Great news, but I'm not surprised. Jordan Fuller's scholastic record at tOSU suggests that, even if he's a solid pro, the best part of his financial future won't depend on his football skills. Fine scholar-athlete in the Fisher School.

While Grinch probably is staying, I wouldn't read that from Fullers decision. Schiano is the man who played a role in recruiting Fuller to OSU not Grinch.
True but Schiano isn't his position coach and surely Fuller may have been inclined to leave if he knew the architect for the worst defense in OSU history was returning.

Or maybe Jordan would have stayed no matter what. Just a guess on my part though

This decision is enormous, we really needed him to come back in a big way. Agreed that I think his stock took a little dip this year, so hopefully he kills it for us next year and increases his position. Amped to have him back. Now just need Jordan and Hill to stay put and I think we retain pretty much the nucleus of players we could have realistically kept to come back (Haskins has been long gone imo).

With the improvement of White and Okudah, having Fuller come back is HUGE! I thought he was the only one in the back 7 worth leaving early but glad he is back. Will be a big anchor for that back 7 especially if we get some good LB play and White, Okudah and another DB step up and keep improving. Really excited to see what Fuller can do in his final season.

JORDAN FULLER'S RETURN TO OHIO STATE ALLOWS OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE “GAME-CHANGING PLAYS” HE FELT WERE MISSING

101381_h.jpg

Every time Jordan Fuller reflected on his season between the Big Ten championship and the Rose Bowl, he was quick to interject with a comment on Ohio State’s successful season.

Fuller, a team captain and two-time Academic All-American majoring in business marketing, couched every answer about himself with the team’s achievements. But it wasn’t overly difficult to understand that he hoped for a better season from himself.

“To be honest, I have not reflected too much about how I’ve done,” Fuller said on Dec. 12. “I’ve focused on the team and the defense really and just getting us right and getting better every week. As far as me, I think I did OK. It wasn’t the season I wanted to have. But that’s not really important. We won a Big Ten championship. I really couldn’t ask for much else, to be honest.”

About two weeks later, he gave a similar answer, noting what was missing from his season.

“To be honest, I feel like I just played OK,” Fuller said on Dec. 26. “I played solid, but I haven't make the elite plays I want to make. Like, game-changing plays. I was kind of bummed out about that. But I can't really complain. We won the Big Ten championship and we're at the Rose Bowl. Team goals come first.”

Considering the opportunity for Fuller to get his degree and the thought that he “just played OK,” it wasn’t a shock that he announced he would return for his senior season on Thursday.

His return bolsters next season’s secondary and eliminated the daunting question of which safety would be able to replace him in the fall.

As a freshman, Fuller played behind Malik Hooker and Damon Webb and watched as Hooker had arguably the best season by a safety in Ohio State history.

Hooker, a unanimous All-American who entered the NFL draft following his one season as a starter and was picked 15th overall, had two interceptions in his first start. Fuller hasn’t had more than two interceptions in a season during his career. He picked off two passes in 2017 and one pass in 2018. He had interceptions against Michigan in both seasons, including the pick to seal the 2017 win against the Wolverines.

Fuller tied with Malik Harrison for a team-high 81 tackles this season, but his one interception and four pass break-ups weren’t enough in his mind.

ESPN predicts under-the-radar college stars in the top 25

OHIO STATE: DB JORDAN FULLER

8149881.jpg

Jordan Fuller has a chance to thrive in his return to Ohio State’s defensive secondary. ESPN mentions to addition of Jeff Hafley, which is an interesting tie. Hafley was a lead recruiter for Jordan’s older brother Devin Fuller before he began a seven-year run in the NFL. Jordan Fuller made 143 tackles and three picks in his first two years as a full-time player.

ESPN says, “New co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley may provide the push Fuller needs to become a full-fledged star in Columbus and plug some holes that plagued Ohio State's defense a year ago.”

JORDAN FULLER READY TO GET BACK ON THE FIELD, PREPARING FOR SENIOR SEASON AFTER MISSING SPRING WITH INJURY

As Ohio State went through what should have been his final round of spring practices as a Buckeye, Jordan Fuller wasn’t able to practice with his team.

The senior safety sat out spring practices after undergoing offseason surgery, relegating him to rehab work and watching from the sidelines while his teammates went through their first 15 practice sessions of 2019. That wasn’t easy for Fuller, who wanted to be on the field with his teammates as much as anyone.

“It was definitely tough sitting out this spring,” Fuller said during an interview Friday following Ohio State’s job fair. “Especially me, because I love football, I love competing. And I love being out there with my DBs and stuff, just getting hyped, having fun.”

Fuller still did his best to stay engaged with the team, though, despite being unable to physically practice. He went through daily rehab to work toward getting healthy while continuing to attend meetings and watch as much film as he usually would.

“I was in at like 6 a.m. every day just trying to get my stuff right,” Fuller said. “Getting stronger, getting healthier by the day.”

Now that the Buckeyes are going through summer workouts and getting closer to the run-up to the season, Fuller is confident he’ll be ready to go when preseason camp begins. He wouldn’t disclose exactly what his injury was, but estimated that he is “92” percent healthy and said he has been able to do most of what his teammates are doing in offseason strength and conditioning drills.

“I’m basically doing everything but just at a lower capacity,” Fuller said. “The stuff I don’t do, I’m making it up with like an hour-and-a-half rehab.”

It’s important for Fuller to be back on the field with the Buckeyes in preseason camp because he’s expected to play a crucial role on Ohio State’s defense once again. Entering his third year as a starting safety for the Buckeyes, Fuller is a returning team captain and was the Buckeyes’ most consistently reliable player in the secondary last year.

While it’s unclear exactly how the back end of Ohio State’s defense will look under new co-defensive coordinators Jeff Hafley and Greg Mattison, the Buckeyes often deployed single-high safeties during spring practice. While Isaiah Pryor and Josh Proctor took most of the reps at that spot this spring, with Brendon White also mixing in, Fuller should step right into that role once he’s a full participant in practice again.

Even though Hafley hasn’t yet been able to coach Fuller as a participant in practice, the Buckeyes’ new secondary coach and co-defensive coordinator is excited by what he’s seen from the veteran safety so far.

“He is able to do some stuff at half-speed, but he looks good doing it,” Hafley said. “Great kid. You guys probably know him better than I do right now. But from meeting with him, what a super human being who does so much more than just play football.”

Fuller could have opted to enter the 2019 NFL draft after last season, but he chose to stay at Ohio State for his senior season instead. Fuller said last December that he felt like he “just played OK” in his junior season, citing that he did not make the “game-changing plays” he felt he was capable of making.

Jordan Fuller is looking to take his game to a higher level in his final season at Ohio State this year.
Staying at Ohio State also gives Fuller, an Academic All-American for each of the past two years, an opportunity to work toward completing his degree and take advantage of the opportunities available through Ohio State’s Real Life Wednesdays program. A marketing major, Fuller has been working as a sports law intern this summer for Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP, a Columbus-based law firm. He also had a shadowing opportunity at the NFL Players’ Association last summer alongside Ohio State wide receiver C.J. Saunders.

As he enters his final season as a Buckeye, Fuller is trying to make sure he takes advantage of those opportunities while he still can.

“I definitely try to make the most of my experience here,” Fuller said.

Fuller said the past three years at Ohio State have “really flew by,” so he’s still grasping the fact that he is a senior now. Knowing that it his final season as a Buckeye, though, makes him as motivated as ever to perform at his best this season and do his part to help his team compete for a championship.

“I’ve always worked hard, but I mean, everything just means a little more,” Fuller said of being a senior. “Just knowing it’s my last year, last ride, I’m giving it everything I’ve got.”

Ranking Ohio State’s 2019 Playmakers on Defense: No. 4 — Jordan Fuller

Jordan-Fuller-Michigan-2-1170x780.jpg

The No. 4 player on this list is a two-time Academic All-American returning captain for the Buckeyes who is headed into his third year as a starter and led the team with 81 tackles last season.

No. 4 — Jordan Fuller, Senior Safety
Jordan Fuller was one of Ohio State’s best recruiting wins in the 2016 class.

He arrived as a corner, but was almost immediately put at safety where the need was greater. As a true freshman, he played in nearly every game and was in the two-deep at free (slot) safety behind senior Damon Webb.

As a sophomore in 2017, Fuller won the strong (deep) safety job, replacing All-American Malik Hooker.

Fuller was asked to do the impossible in replacing Hooker and while nobody expected him to replicate that kind of production, he still finished second on the team with 70 tackles (despite what the stats say below) and two interceptions. He was named Third-Team All-Big Ten.

While the production wasn’t identical, Fuller never had fingers pointing at him for letting the position regress.

Last year, Fuller moved to free (slot) safety and tied for the team lead with 81 tackles. His interceptions dropped to one, but he was again very solid for the Buckeyes, earning Second-Team All-Big Ten recognition.

There is a new defense in town at Ohio State and Fuller was out all spring with an injury, so it isn’t exactly known where he will be lining up once fall camp gets under way in a little under three weeks.

OHIO STATE NAMES ITS CAPTAINS FOR THE 2019 SEASON

Ohio State has officially named its captains for the 2019 season.

Senior safety Jordan Fuller and redshirt junior linebacker Tuf Borland, who are both returning captains from 2018, will be joined by J.K. Dobbins, Chase Young, K.J. Hill, C.J. Saunders and Jonathon Cooper as Ohio State's formal leaders for 2019, Buckeyes coach Ryan Day announced Monday.

Fuller is entering his third season as a starting safety for the Buckeyes and is one of the team's most experienced players, having played 39 games in his Ohio State career. Off the field, Fuller has been named an Academic All-American and an AFCA Good Works Team nominee.

Borland has played in all 28 of Ohio State's games over the past two seasons, including 20 starts at middle linebacker. He had 58 total tackles as a redshirt freshman in 2017, then recorded 67 tackles last season despite missing most of the spring and summer with an Achilles injury. Already a captain for the second time with another season of eligibility remaining after this one, Borland now has a chance to become Ohio State's second-ever three-time captain, a feat that has only been achieved by J.T. Barrett.

J.K. Dobbins, Chase Young, K.J. Hill, C.J. Saunders and Jonathon Cooper are all captains for the first time in their Ohio State careers.
