Film looks solid. I think his tackle skills are very similar to Powers. But what sets them apart is McClains coverage skills. In todays CFB your S better have some type of coverage skills, or at least a base to work from. IMo McClain is like a Kroger brand Lathan Ransom. And that’s not a knock, just a little joke that McClain reminds me of Ransom but just not to the level as high as Ransom.
Hey, I love it. Ransom was great in HS and honestly most of last year. So I'll take that for sure. Happy to welcome this young man aboard.

This kid is being heavily slept on! These mid season highlights are really good and what you look for in an open field S

Very impressive indeed. Favorite attribute is how he high points the ball up top at its highest point, but great closing speed, hard hitter and very active tackler. Love what I see here.

Ohio State defensive back commit
Jaylen McClain
had a very good game for West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep against Montvale (N.J.) St. Joe's Regional. From his safety position, McClain did a great job flowing to the ball when it was thrown in front of him and against the run. It was easy to see how strong a tackler he has become. McClain wasn't tested very much in the passing game, but he has a physical presence that can make quarterbacks shy away from throwing in his direction. It will be interesting to see how he is used at Ohio State and how he develops once the Buckeyes strength and conditioning staff gets their hands on him.

I think many of us (including me really) didn't really pay much attention to McClain when he committed because of Bolden not coming here, but it looks like we stole a good one from NJ at safety. With Delane and McNutt looking promising in '25, teaming them up with McClain will be a heck of a core to the safety group in the future.
OS has done well with NJ DBs
