I will say, watching Downs on the return reminded me a lot of Doss...

For the record, Tatum played Left (defensive) Halfback, a position that we now call cornerback

He played safety in Oakland iirc

I m a little foggy on this . But OSU played a defense that was a 5-2 or the MG stood up to play a 4-3.,Tatum may have been listed as HB but he played more hybrid .he blitzed more than covered. Regardless he was awesome.

In my opinion, the best Safety at OSU has been Donte Whitner. He did it in college and in the NFL. There have other elites as well….Tatum, Gordon, Doss, Allen, Hooker, Powell. But Downs looks like he will surpass Whitner as the best of my lifetime (and I’m old)
