Well, he was 5th on the safety depth chart during the bowl game, so his role was already largely diminished.

He has also been riddled with injuries in past years, IIRC. So I'm not sure this is a very large distraction.

Multiple dope incidents, beating up random students, the only viable heir to Henne wanting to transfer (before the parents talk him out of it)... those things were probably more distracting.

I agree it isn't all that big a thing but the more the merrier or every little bit hurts more.
