Taking it a bit too far no?

Absolutely nothing and it will give Columbus a bad rep league-wide.

no i think it is the right move. typically toronto is so far removed they dont get the "controversy" of the columbus market. they were actually unaware for a couple of weeks of some of the no goals calls were controversial. in det, or rangers, boston, the canadian teams they know, the reports hit the the media and are grilled, not so much for a newer/small market team.

i think it depends on how it is done. if it is done correctly nothign wrong with it. then again this is nothing new for most franchises, it is normal for more than one franchise...

jackets gm howson has been to beantown to scout this week.

last night oilers director of pro scout (morey gare) was in columbus.
jackets were scouting the edm v ducks game last night.

the quick connection would be the likes of a tom gilbert [random thought]. who is on a 4m relatively long term (seems if its not a life time deal its hard to deem in long term these days...] gilbert is a big, physical, mobile, right hand two way dman, how can move the puck, tickle the twine, yet has struggled this year... {the other name id think of at this point is grebeshkov-rfa} yet its hard to tell. and it seems odd two teams essentially eliminated would swing something at this point, unless they wanted to keep something off the table, or they really wanted it. the oils want/need a top 6 forward. oil have 45m committed next year to payroll, theyll need to sign a back up netminder, they have grebeshkov as an rfa, and will need another dman signed for next year, further they have 6 (six) rfa forwards. a few will/should be up for hefty raises and comrie/pisani coming off the books.

rfa wise
gagner
cogiliano
pouliout
brule
jfj
potluny

i seem to see logic, yet it seems "odd" to me...

Be nice if the Jackets could bring in Visnovsky..

Wouldn't have a problem with Gilbert. Not a great contract, but I think he could help. Don't want Cogliano.
color me skeptical, i dont think a 33 year old defenceman who just had season ending reconstructive shoulder surgery due 6.5/6.5/6/4/3 over the next few years, and a pro rated 7m....

just saying.

gilberts actual payroll is 5.5/5/3.5/3 with a pro rated 3.5m this year (4m cap)

Good point. I just really like his game and think the Jackets could benefit from a guy like that. Always liked him. Me being biased.
