rumor central and the cbj

with just about 50 hours left to go rummors are running crazy. i decided to seperate this stuff to be merged later so you guys can tell if something actually pops up or if its *rumor*

buring stuff for today.
-berard to the red wings, this is labeled at 40% while keeping him 30% and shipping him elsewhere 30%

-*reported* interest in al montoya property of the rangers and former michigan goaltender in a trade, which would of course involve the movement of marcie.

at this point thats all thats come out today. like footbal recruiting these numbers are merely guesses.

feel free to post thoughts, concerns, pipe dreams, your own wishes etc.

Girlfriend's a huge Red Wings fan. She doesn't want a doper on her team. But the Wings need to beef up for the playoffs.

I'm always excited to hear about interest in any goaltender, which would result the departure of marcie.

the only problem i have with the montoya move is it doesnt make sense, al is maybe 2 years out and right now we have a log jam of echl/ahl talent goaltenders and 2 guys who i think can be legit nhl guys (assuming we let prusek go at the end of the year) in denis and pas.

i dont see the nyr moving a young goaltender, sure they have lundquist but not two long ago they had two young goalies career ended by injury.

the thing i look at right now is how the increase value of players in the past two weeks with the new cap. mccabe turned down 16 mil over 4 years, norstrom signed 4.25 a year etc.

look at some solid forwards who are ufa and are very reasonably priced.
lw
*E. Cole 1.14*
JP Dumont 1.6
Marcel Hossa .59
S Samsonov 2.77
D Sedin 1.25

all these guys seem reasonable, cole has his neck thing to deal with. and will the sedin twins split for the first time in their life?

all interesting stuff and will spice up the next 50 hours

not related to the jackets but it seems former ohio state player rj umberger very likely will be headed back to his hometown of pitt. it has been called a "done deal" i would question that with two franchise caliber centers already in the org with sid and malkin though he did play with the flyers 1s this year as a wing...but who knows

still no one will talk to me. as far as the cbj about 5-6 guys are in the know and they know if as much as a whisper leaks out their heads are on the chopping blocks.

no trades yet.....

rumors have the canucks moving either bertuzzi or morrison to the central (to nash or det, neither make much sense really) who knows?

richardson to the red wings for ???
things are heating up folks...

although personally i thought theyd be after berard. i can deal with this move, in all honesty luke has this year and maybe one more year. i dont see him hanging around detroit for long if they dont go deep after this year.

a mid round draft pick and a serviceable player, most likely a d man and i would assume one of their young bucks, either one of their younger shaky players in detroit or a guy in grand rapids.

personally as good as it sounds i dont think it "fits" unless the wings are gonna older with this move, maybe too old.
they already have 7 guys 35+ on their roster and another handful in the 33-34 bracket.

my 2 cents so far.

1-uncertainty. for the first time in a salary cap to go through a trade deadline, no one has a clue what the status quo is.
2-increase in next years cap. more money for free agents this summer. pretty simple, why give up something for something you can get this summer?
3-tons of bubble teams in both the east and west.
4-the free agent age was lowered with the cba, so more unrestricted free agents in the next few years. but more so teams are more interested in roster guys not draft picks.
5-about 20 games left, usually the deadline is around the 12 game mark. pretty hard to sell to your city you are scarpping the season with 1/4 of the season left to play.

this being said a lot more window shopping is going on than in the past, but a lot less buying and movement...so far.

Even without knowing specifics, it sounds like a good deal for the CBJ. They get younger and rid themselves of some payroll and the Red Wings get older. Heck, I'd take a mid round pick for Luke. A serviceable player is a bonus, IMO.

Any rumors on the Denis front or is GMDM intent on keeping him? Also, any league blockbuster trade rumors?

nothing at this point is comming out of the offices downtown. NOTHING.

things are getting really tight and no one is talking.

in the last 10 minuts half a dozen guys have been placed on waivers and a few of them claimed. signaling the frenzy should start here pretty soon. guys are trying to clear cap room for these moves.

from tsn
Bruins claim Czerkawski, others places on waivers
The following players are also on waivers today: Tampa's Norm Milley, Phoenix goalie Philippe Sauve; Philadelphia's Turner Stevenson; Atlanta's Rico Fata and Chicago's Andy Hilbert.

the denis thing i just dont know.

one hand: if you can get someone to overpay you should take it, hes not the guy who can lead us deep into the playoffs. maybe we get a player who can really help this team, maybe the trade is a bust.
other hand: do you want to make the playoffs next year? pas isnt ready for that. pas has injury issues he has yet to kick. every team needs two solid goaltenders. a veteran who has someone playoff exp, even if it is just watching roy from the pine.

i bounce back and forth on this issue. i usually lean more towards the keep marc and play not to lose. to much is at risk for such a young franchise. if you can make a playoff push you can grow your team and your market. but who knows. dougie makes 15 million over 3 years i think the dispatch reported (haha) to make the tough ones like this.
