I am getting really annoyed to the fact that he gets so much credit for being an astute analyst when 3/4 of the dumb ideas we hear from lesser analysts are out there because they heard it from him say it first. For all the bitching we do about guys like Dennis Dodd and Mark May around here - half the dumb shit they say is just them parroting something that Herbie says at one point or another. He's probably THE leading tastemaker in college football these days, and it's high time that he gets recognized for the dumb ideas and trends that he starts in addition to the good observations that he still makes.

Right up there with the Miles to Michigan and the USC is the greatest thing since sliced bread commentary....

I thought it was interesting that Spielman commented that it wasn't the speed that beat OSU in the title game last year and that in fact OSU was faster than Florida....

Fortunately, I stopped taking Herbie seriously about 10 years ago when I used to listen to his radio show. The kicker for me was him saying that the solution for the Bengals' woes was for Mike Brown to start spending more money. This after they spent mega-dollars on Dan Wilkinson and KiJana Carter, both of whom were major busts. I thought to myself "is Herbie actually paying attention to the NFL?" He does do a lot of research and I give him credit for knowing a little something about pretty much every team in the country, and that takes some doing. But you are correct that he makes a lot of bonehead comments that end up sounding intelligent just because he says them with conviction. Then the rest of the talking head world picks it up and it's everywhere. Still, all in all he's less annoying than Mark May. :wink2:
