Rookie contract signings.

After last years 'weak' draft class it was easy for me to predict that this year was going to be damn near impossible to get players signed based on the difficulty of last season.

Well so far it looks like i'm right, only 2 first round draft picks have signed, and only 1 first round pick has been signed since AFTER the draft. Then you can throw into the mix that the number 2 pick, reggie bush, his agent has tossed out the idea of a season long hold out. It shall be interesting to see the money these guys get, makes me glad that the Bears didn't have an early pick.

This thread is for any news peice you can find as i'm having difficulty finding much...

First round draft news...

Houston signed Williams to a six-year, $54 million contract, with $26.5 million guaranteed. San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith, the top pick in last year’s draft, got a six-year, $49.5 million contract from the 49ers, with $24 million guaranteed.

Linebacker Kamerion Wimbley will be on time when the Cleveland Browns begin training camp for their rookies on Sunday. Wimbley, the Browns' first-round pick in 2006, signed a six-year contract on Saturday.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal is reportedly worth $23.7 million.

Agent Mark Bartelstein, who represents No. 5 overall pick A.J. Hawk of the Green Bay Packers and No. 12 overall pick Haloti Ngata of the Baltimore Ravens, put it: "We've barely had any discussion with either team, but I expect it will pick up over the weekend."

Linebacker Bobby Carpenter, the team's first-round pick, received a five-year offer. The Cowboys made four-year offers to their other seven draft picks.
Carpenter's contract will probably be worth about $10 million. Minnesota defensive end Erasmus James, the 18th pick of last year's draft, signed a five-year, $9.8 million deal.

First-round draft pick Michael Huff was among those who arrived in Napa on time. The former Texas defensive back, picked seventh overall, is close to agreeing to a five-year deal with the Raiders worth $22.5 million.
Huff had not officially signed a contract before checking in at training camp, but told reporters he expected to do it before practice Tuesday.
"As soon as I was drafted I told my agent I wanted to be here, set a good example," Huff said. "I'm happy to be on the field. The last game I played in was the Rose Bowl so I'm ready to play."

It's really not all that uncommon, with most of the camps starting this week this is when most of the deals will get done. A few people will be a day or two late, but up until this past weekend most teams hadn't even tried to contact their rookies.

Vince looks to have landed a great deal for a 3rd pick.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Vince Young and LenDale White signed with the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, a day before the team opens training camp.
Young, the No. 3 overall pick out of Texas, agreed to a five-year deal, with an option for a sixth, with $25.7 million guaranteed and an overall value that could reach $58 million with option and roster bonuses and salary.
That would top the six-year, $54 million deal with $26.5 million guaranteed for the top draft pick, defensive end Mario Williams of Houston.

Another.
First-round draft pick Mathias Kiwanuka signed a five-year contract with the New York Giants on Thursday that his agent said could be worth up to $10 million if the Boston College defensive end hits all his incentives.

Kiwanuka is guaranteed $5 million under terms of the deal, which were reached a little more than 12 hours before the Giants were to report to camp.
"The millionaire part is good," Kiwanuka said. "But I think the most exciting part is that this is day one for me. This is the official day one. I have been a part of the team, kind of, now that it is signed and over with, I'm happy."

The Minnesota Vikings have wrapped up deals with all of their draft choices, as the team late Wednesday night reached an agreement in principle with first-round selection Chad Greenway, a linebacker from Iowa who likely will start as a rookie in the club's retooled defense.
Barring any last-minute complications, Greenway, the 17th overall choice in the draft, is scheduled to officially sign a five-year contract on Thursday and report along with the rest of the team to training camp. The Vikings' initial practice under first-year head coach Brad Childress is on Friday morning. Financial details of the Greenway contract were not yet available.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Vikings signed second-round quarterback Tarvaris Jackson to a four-year contract worth $2.7 million-$2.8 million. The former Alabama State standout is viewed as the Vikings' quarterback of the future, but will be brought along slowly this season, and likely will be No. 3 on the depth chart behind starter Brad Johnson and backup Mike McMahon.
There isn't likely to be such an apprenticeship for Greenway, who will challenge veteran E.J. Henderson for the starting job at weakside linebacker in camp. Under new defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin, who has installed the "cover two" scheme he learned while working in Tampa Bay, the Vikings have shuffled their linebackers during spring workouts, seeking the right three-man combination.
Chiefs agree with first-rounder Hali

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached agreement with first-round draft choice Tamba Hali, the standout defensive end from Penn State, on a five-year contract, ESPN.com has learned. Financial details of the deal were not immediately available.
The 20th overall choice in the draft, Hali has expected to play an important role as the Chiefs implement a cover two scheme under new coach Herm Edwards.
Hali played in 47 games at Penn State, and started 34 of them, registering 179 tackles, including 36 tackles for losses. He had 14 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.
A native of Liberia, Hali is noted for his big motor and intensity, along with his big-play skills. Some teams dropped him on their draft boards because of what they felt were slow 40-yard times, but the Chiefs had no such concerns.
The signings are coming in full force now.

Anyone want to V-Bet Reggie Bush getting a larger signing bonus then M. Williams?

Speaking of Reggie Bush and the full season hold-out. I was sickened to see that 50% of the voters on ESPN feel that the Saints should pay Reggie more then Mario Williams. I would have never dreamed of that happening, but with Vince Young getting the contract he did at the number 3 position, i'm convinced Reggie will make more then Mario Williams.

<small>Reggie Bush highlight reel</small>
No. 2 overall pick and Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush not only appears headed for a holdout with the New Orleans Saints, a league source said Bush is toying with the idea of sitting out the entire season and going back in the draft in 2007 if he doesn't get his price.
"No player has ever had the kind of leverage that Reggie Bush has right now," the source said. "The Saints made it clear what they were willing to do before and now we'll see if they're going to get there."
It seems unlikely the Saints will do that in time for Bush to report to training camp with the team on Thursday in Jackson, Miss. Two sources said that talks between the Saints and agent Joel Segal have been nearly non-existent.
<table align="right" border="0" cellpadding="1" hspace="10" vspace="5"> <tbody><tr> <td><script type="text/javascript">if (window.yzq_a == null) document.write("<scr" + "ipt type=text/javascript src=""http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.js.yimg.com/lib/bc/bc_1.7.3.js></scr" + "ipt>"); </script><script type="text/javascript"> if (window.yzq_a) { yzq_a('p', 'P=8MDal86.I.YNi5CNRL1PPQzZSoY85ETBs9sAAo30&T=13rb4sbe6%2fX%3d1153545179%2fE%3d97542380%2fR%3d sports%2fK%3d5%2fV%3d1.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3 d1708853186%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3dAEE78E44'); yzq_a('a', '&U=139r80slc%2fN%3dMI07A9ibyhE-%2fC%3d541089.8986680.9760888.1414694%2fD%3dLREC%2 fB%3d3848712'); } </script><noscript>http://us.bc.yahoo.com/b?P=8MDal86.I... fB%3d3848712</noscript>
</td> </tr> </tbody></table> On Wednesday, Mike Ornstein, who is Bush's marketing agent, told the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson, Miss., that he didn't think Bush would be signed in time for camp. Ornstein is not allowed to negotiate contracts, but he is acutely aware of all of Bush's business matters.
One of the sources took that a step further, saying Segal was considering not having Bush sign at all. Segal declined to comment when contacted Friday and messages left with multiple members of the New Orleans organization weren't returned.
While it appears unlikely on face value that Bush would sit out, he appears well-positioned to do so if he really wants.
Bush supposedly has more than $5 million in the bank from multiple endorsement deals Ornstein has negotiated since Bush left the University of Southern California. That money is guaranteed regardless of whether Bush plays this season.
Next, Bush could probably sit out 2006 and still be a high pick next year.
Furthermore, Bush probably has the public sentiment running in his favor. Even though holdout players are generally unpopular, Bush has caused tremendous excitement in New Orleans.
In May, shortly after Bush was drafted, the Saints had already set a franchise record for season-ticket sales, having topped 55,000 at that time. That's extraordinary, especially considering the condition of the hurricane-ravaged city.
Moreover, team owner Tom Benson is immensely unpopular in New Orleans. Ranging from his hard-line negotiations with the city and state to constant threats that he will move the team, Benson is often treated with open scorn by Saints fans.
Bush has also worked hard to endear himself to fans in the city after it came out that he didn't want to play in New Orleans. Bush has made multiple donations to hurricane relief.

Reggie is going to get paid. Vince Young's contract had to make his agent smile.

Is it Reggie's or Vince's agent that many claimed was one of the dumbest choices of all times?

Another signing
First-round draft choice Jay Cutler, who struggled at times in the spring but is still regarded as the Denver Broncos' quarterback of the future, on Thursday evening reached agreement on a six-year contract.
<table align="right" border="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td width="2">
</td><td width="65">
s7760.jpg
</td></tr><tr><td width="2">
</td><td width="65">Cutler</td></tr></tbody></table>The deal came shortly after the team's scheduled report time but still got the former Vanderbilt star into training camp in plenty of time for Friday's initial practice session. The contract has a maximum value of about $48 million, counting escalators and incentives, and includes $11 million in bonuses.
It marked the second big quarterback signing of the day, with the Tennessee Titans earlier striking a deal with Vince Young of Texas. That leaves Matt Leinart of Southern California as the lone first-round quarterback without an agreement. ESPN.com has learned that Leinart's agent, Tom Condon of CAA, is scheduled to meet Friday with Arizona Cardinals officials.
When the Broncos used the 11th overall choice in the draft to grab Cutler, there was immediate speculation the move signaled unhappiness with incumbent Jake Plummer, and some predicted that the rookie might vie for the starting job. But like most first-year quarterbacks, Cutler had uneven stretches during the spring minicamps and will probably start the season No. 3 on the depth chart.
That said, there is little doubt that coach Mike Shanhan is looking to the future at the game's most critical position and feels Cutler is the Broncos' long-term guy.
A big, raw-boned passer whose toughness and moxie have drawn comparisons to Brett Favre, Cutler started in all 34 of his appearances in college. He completed 710-of-1,242 pass attempts for 8,697 yards, with 54 touchdown passes and 22 interceptions. Surprisingly quick for his size (6-feet-3, 226 pounds), Cutler also ran for 1,256 yards and 17 touchdowns on 453 carries.
Cutler sustained a beating over four years while playing behind a suspect offensive line, but his toughness and reluctance to abandon the pocket impressed league scouts. He has a strong arm and excellent touch but a low release point and will have to work to improve his mechanics.

Way to Go AJ. Now we just need Whitner to sign.
The Green Bay Packers have agreed in principle to a six-year, $37.5 million contract with A.J. Hawk, the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.
The former Ohio State linebacker hopes to get the language of the contract done by Saturday morning so that he can practice. Terms of his guarantees haven't been finalized. Those will be done Friday night and Saturday morning.
Talks between the Packers and Hawk's agent, Mike McCartney, heated up Thursday afternoon when the Jets completed a similar deal with D'Brickashaw Ferguson, the fourth pick in the draft. The Packers reported to camp Friday.
All of the Packers' draft choices now have contract agreements.

Come on Whitner, lets not get compared to Reggie
The Baltimore Ravens reached agreement Friday on a five-year, $11.9 million deal with first-round choice Haloti Ngata, the 12th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.
Ngata, a 6-foot-4, 337 pounds defensive tackle from Oregon, was considered one of the key offseason additions to the Ravens' defense because he is a big, body along the defensive line who will eat up blockers and make it easier for middle linebacker Ray Lewis.
"I'm really relieved that it's done and I can go play football. I couldn't afford to miss too much time because I only had that one minicamp," Ngata told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "It was a good deal. The Ravens were very fair to me."
