I have several roof shingles missing and need to decided if I want to replace the missing shingle, do a layover or replace the entire roof. Can anyone recommend a good affordable roofer in the Columbus area? And any thoughts on repair, layover or replacement would be appreciated.

Do you only have one layer of shingles currently on? You can only have two layers of roof before you have to tear off... what is the pitch and approximate square footage of your roof? how long have the shingles been missing? if it has been awhile the plywood under the tar paper might be damaged...

The normal procedure is you can do a cover over 1 time.
Next time you'll need to pick up the roof.
If your tiles are curling, your roof is probably shot and should be replaced.
Can't help you of a contractor..............
But, remember to get EVERTHING in WRITING!

Only one layer. The pitch is pretty steep. I have some extra shingles laying around and I actually got on the roof thinking I was good to replace them, but I decided I wasn't ready to die.... Not sure how long they've been missing. Just noticed it today when I was cleaning the pool. I'll probably sell in the next 6-12 months, so I don't want to sink too much into it.

You can go to any decent tool rental place and get the tools necessary to sucessfully reroof . They basically are metal L's that nail right to the roof and you put a stud (wooden lol) between them. you would have to do the bottom few sets from a ladder until you can get these nailed up. If you have never roofed before any decent supply house( home depot, lowes has people to answer your question. the only thing you have to remember is how to start the bottom set. ( cut the shingles in half lentghwise and turn them over so the glue is up then lay new whole shingles down over that. and that is how you make your first course. after that just make sure you lay them straight. If you can't do it by eyeballing it then measure and lay down chalk lines.
Best advice. talk to local people in the stores

if you have Dimensional Shingles, I believe you can only go one layer because they are essentially 2 shingles layered together. IMO roofovers are not a wise choice. They extra weight isn't good, and the "tear off" would alert you to any larger problems that might be in the sheeting, or god forbid the truss.
