Rats and mice are just more creatures in natures scheme.
Today people make pets of rats. ( I've seen it).
But you just have to make sure that they get baths before they can eat .

I have had rats as pets many times. They are cute as heck, loving, smart and very clean actually. Wild and sewer ones are not because of their scavenger lifestyle, feeding habits and dirty habitat.

I have also had snakes and cheerfully fed mice and rats to them, even while having pet rats at the same time. Everything's gotta eat and a feeder rodent is not a pet rodent and is not bred or raised the same way.

Wild rodents get live-trapped if I also have the option of being able to fairly easily take them far enough away from human habitation to release. Otherwise, its traps but I prefer snap ones to glue, they kill cleaner. As in, faster and more humanely in my opinion, a broken neck as opposed to starving and drying into some kind of weird sticky husk. Plus they are reusable as opposed to throwing away a glue trap after every use.

ACK!!! I HATE mice... in fact... during the course of reading this thread I pulled my feet up off the floor... We do not have mice. I'd have to move if we did... oh God, we lived on Summit Street, the neighbors moved out, Terminix sprayed their stuff and all critters scattered, fleeing for their lives (RIGHT INTO OUR PLACE.) I swear... One of our roomates brought home some of those sticky trap things, put them in the kitchen... Oh dear God, who ever would think something so little can make such a noise. I can't stand them, I am reduced to a panicked little girl, frozen in place if I gatch a glimpse of one.

Y'all got a cat or a dog?

We used these in my frat house in college with a good success rate. We got bombed afterwords too.

This could be just be some tall tales but my friend has a jack russell and swears that any smaller terrier would squeeze between the dry wall going after vermin. Fox Terriers and the related terriers are excellent at squeezing into tight spaces and getting small varmints according to the lore.

What could a dozen rats find to eat in a two bedroom bungalao?

They were forced out of the ground because of the massive amounts of rain.

Keep in mind that it normally rains in Florida every single afternoon at 3:00 than it does in SoCal all year.

Pfft. Snap traps can't catch 3-4 mice AND a couple of cockroaches for good measure in one sitting.
