Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Hate to say it... but...

I think it'll be more interesting a couple years down the road when Rodriguez gets his players with some experience.

I don't think he's going to be an epic failure. He's the coach at scUM - not really a program like WVU or Tulane. He's going to have more talent than he's had in previous years. I fucking hate him, but I think he'll win.

Oh, he'll win... you bet 'cha. But, they will win while knowing:
1) They sold their souls to do it,
2) The average net increase in wins will likely be 1.25 games per year,
3) ... and they sold their souls to do it.

Like it or not, and personally I like a tsun program who runs the B10+1 up until the last game each year, they are tsun. They ARE going to win. But at the end of the day, when t s u n looks back at what it took, they will all wonder if it was really worth it.

Others have said it, and I've said it before. They have hired their Coop. We let go of a real Ohio Man in EB and sold our soul for a Johnny-come-lately (sorry for the pun) who on ONE occasion demonstrated that he could take tsun to task before he was hired. Had he not won that bowl game, I would suggest, he'd never have been our coach.

That all said, Coop did a -- for the most part -- fine job at tOSU. He recruited very well. His teams won a heck of a lot of games. He, in a lot of ways, set the stage for what we are enjoying now. So, in the end, really no hard feelings. But I challenge any of you long time fans to recall the Coop years, and ask yourself... did you, at any time during his tenure, ask yourself if it was really worth it? I know I did. Just the same way that I expect tsun to look back in a few years and ask themselves the same.

Personally, I was ashamed of a lot of the things that went on with the team outside the lines. Had it not been for a few select schools in FL who had bigger issues to take us out of the spotlight, we'd have been known as Thug-U. And even then... I'm sure that we gave more than a college try at being Thug-U of the North. (Not that JT has had a perfect record either, but anyone would be hard pressed to suggest that he's not taken notes and learned as a result.)

Let them have their coach. Let them win some games. But also let them do so in knowing just how far off their own pedestal they have fallen to do so.

As a native of Henry County...

But I do not argue that you hung on to your "hillbilly brothers from Toledo."

As a native of Henry County and an owner of period maps which offer proof: I would like to go on record that we have never been part of tsun.

Now, if they were to take the Sports Editor from the "major" newspaper in Henry county, we'd be completely clean. One could only wish.

i dont agree with this statement
of course you don't. you guys are so fucking scared of how badly he could kill your program that you all have to buy into his shit. and the barwis nonsense. and any running QB who commits is going to be pat white combined with matt leinart. and his spread is going to revolutionize the Big10. and anybody that transfers out is a big pussy prima donna....despite the fact that they were your saviors and the futures of the program last year.

it's because you know what's possible, and it scares the absolute crap out of you.

I was so young during the Cooper years that all I remember is 2-10-1 and 0.00.
I grew up in the cooper years, born during the end of Bruce's. One of my earliest memories of my old man was him bitching about John Cooper

I remember watching Eddie George run away from Notre Dame, Terry Glenn dragging his toes, Joe Germain in Pasadena, Kat (and his GPA), Vrable, Fickle, Hoying, Pepe & countless more.

I remember hearing stories about Woody, Archie, Speilman, the potential of Schlichter, the Super Soph's, and Bo.

Fuck Tim Biakcabutka and his NFL contract, fuck Charles Woodson, every goofy QB with a bowl-cut, fuck my M*ch*gan friends from grade school, and fuck John Cooper.

Cooper was a great coach but his name will always fall under that catagory of memory for me. Is he a HOF'er? Yeah. Did he set us up for what we're experiencing now? Yeah, I think he did.

Tressel and his era which is well documented all over this site.

And now this guy - Rich Rod. I too, think he'll win. I think some other posters have hit it from day 1 - 'they just hired their Coop.' IMO, scUM fans will be able to assemble a list like I did maybe .. they'll remember watching Sam McGuffie tear MSU apart, they'll hear stories about Charles Woodson, but fuck Rich Rod.

This rivalry, IMO, is something that outsiders don't get.

...CW had absolutely zero HC experience and I pointed out that Holtz and Ara both commented on how they needed every ounce of experience they had for the challenges the ND job presented. The cream margarita chugger only wanted to talk about Super Bowl rings at that point. He doesn't bring them up so much anymore...

He doesn't have to bring them up. Apparently, it's all on 8 video tapes. :slappy:

I'll go on record right now saying that Dick Rodriguez will have absolutely 0 impact on Jim Tressel leaving Ohio State.

In fact, he might just assure Tressel's legacy as a Buckeye icon.
