Retiring in Ohio [I need information from you Ohio folks.]

So obviously by the picture above, you can see that I'm no where near retirement. However, my girlfriend/soon to be fiance and I have our hearts set on retiring in Ohio, preferably the Columbus Area. We currently live in Las Vegas, and it fucking sucks.

I can retire in 17 years if I continue to invest in my retirement, and buy 5 years from the end of my career. Which means we're planning on moving out there in about 25 years.

I honestly would love to buy land in Ohio, but before contacting a realtor to start looking around, I want to get some opinions.

If you had your choice to live wherever you could in the Columbus Area, where would it be and why?

Would you build a home, or buy a new home?

Would you be snow birds if you had the opportunity?

Any ideas/opinions/verbal assaults are welcome. Thanks! :cheers:

See, for reasons like this, I'd love to stay a Nevada resident. Maybe spend January-May here, and then June-December in Ohio. Nevada has very low/no taxes due to the gaming/tourism industry that pays for everything.

In 25 years Columbus will be a part of the megapolis known as Clevecincibus. So ! would you like to live up near the lake , near the shoe, Or by 4 rivers stadium where the Reds are owned by OSUGrad21?

Financially, planning to move from Nevada to Ohio for retirement makes no sense. If you don't like living in Vegas move just somewhere else in Nevada.
Nevada is one of the places on my short list of retirement options, for that very reason.

The Rust Belt hasn't figured out what killed it, instead repeating the stupidity and slowly heading down the drain. There's no reason to come here...except the Buckeyes. :biggrin:

Hell yeah retire in ohio and go visit NV. Buy property in southern Ohio away from all the crazy shit and the big city. Build and live long and prosper.

Southern Ohio is a nice area and has some cheaper land prices if you don't mind the rednecks. But I'd move north of Powell/Delaware. Land is a little more pricy but if you buy soon by the time you retire that land will be worth a small fortune.
