Replay Cameras on the Goal Line

Fans in stadiums to see ref's replay

Fans at NFL games this season will get a look under the hood, so to speak -- all stadium video boards will show the same replay the lead official is viewing on the sideline video monitor.
"They'll see the exact same angles at the exact same time as he does," Rich McKay, the Atlanta Falcons' president and NFL competition committee chairman, said this week.

It's a positive for fans because they haven't always had that vantage point. Prior to this coming season, it was up to home teams to show as much or as little replay as they wanted.
"I think this is another example of the league listening to its fans about what they want from the in-game experience," McKay said. "I think throughout this edition of replay, the league, the teams and our broadcast partners have done a nice job of using the available technology to make the game better and make the experience better for the fans."

Great idea Deety...I could probably get an RFID system set up to do just that :)
That would actually be awesome! This conversation came up in baseball recently, but was pretty much shot down because of all of the balls they go through. This would not be the case in football.

Yeah, this won't lead to chaos...

Some fans are bad enough when they just suspect their team is getting screwed. What will they do when they can see it plain as day on on a big screen replay? This rule won't last very long, and let's hope they have the wisdom to reconsider it before an incident takes place.

Something else that could work is to activate a wormhole in each endzone. If the football comes rolling out of the opposing team's endzone, you know it went over the line.

You could even make it possible to score multiple TDs that way. Just think; we could have had a full game of Ted Ginn running down the field and down the field and down the field and down the field...

How about a big net set up, like a soccer goal. And the net is magical, so most objects pass right through it so the net is undisturbed. But the ball can't pass through it. So when you see the net move, you know the ball moved it and it was a touchdown.

Doesn't work for passing touchdowns though.

Maybe the magic only works if someone has possession of the ball when it passes through the magic net. Otherwise, it goes through, too. For passing touchdowns, super-futuristic robots patrol the endline and sidelines to determine the possession and whether 2 feet (for NFL) or 1 foot (for college) was in-bounds.

Hm - I wonder if I can write an excel file that does this...
