Bien. Bien chiludo.
All:

When I installed the latest Window's 7 Security Pack on my wife's laptop, it appears that a number of registries (proper term?) were messed with. Case in point: Sleep and Hibernate are no longer available on the Start button, the screensaver doesn't work correctly no matter how many times I change the settings. Any suggestions on how to overcome these registry issues? Should I just format the drive and re-install from the beginning? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Similar thing happened to me a few months ago after running a scheduled disk check. No sleep or hibernate, screwed up the appearance settings, restore points disappeared, certain programs wouldn't work, and couldn't connect to the internets.

I just backed everything up and formatted.

Have you tried to do a system restore?

Before the Security Pack was applied it should have made a restore point.....

The restore point got lost as the Security Pack attempted to go through around three times due to portions of the update not working. Therefore, I don't believe I could have restored it to a point of "value" so to say.

I figured this might very well be the best option. Thankfully, my wife's laptop is essentially a glorified netpad since she doesn't keep anything of value on the hard drive. Looks like I'm going to have a tremendous amount of time coming up. One sucky part is that the 'puter originally came with Vista and then an upgrade disc to 7 so I'll have a little bit more time on top. Oh well... hopefully it'll work.

Try registry mechanic. it corrects registry errors daily

When I was investigating this situaiton, I was left a little bit reserved on trying these things for two reasons: 1) I'm not savvy enough to know if they're properly fixing my system and 2) according to some sites, these resolutions don't pick up all the errors. Thus, I left not wanting to spend the money. Maybe it's my own cowardice, but I just didn't feel like it was a good option. Am I being too cautious?
