Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Phillies are morons. Lead off double in extra innings. Instead of bunting, they let the guy hit away. He grounds to SS, and of course the guy on second gets thrown out trying to get to third. I am starting to realize why the Reds can get away with the crap they pull day in and day out. The rest of the league is doing it too.

Reds have the day off Monday then start 7 game home stand vs Mets and Cubs.

The WB's and WB's(Pittsburgh chapter) play a 3 game set this weekend at the St Louis chapters place.

Starting to get down to nut cutting time.

Billy Hamilton is now 6 away from tying Vince Coleman for the most steals in a minor league season. Had a good day today, although he did get caught stealing. As expected his numbers are down at the plate and his caught stealing percentage has gone up. Yet overall he is still playing well. His defense still needs work too. Overall still a prospect, and needs a lot of work. Yet is progressing. I really hope they don't call him up and screw with him.

The Cards picked up a little ground, but not as much as they should have.

With a little more luck, the Reds could get some more separation over the next week and a half before they face the Cards. Between now and then, they'll have three against the Mets, four against the Cubs and four on the road against the Phillies. The Cards and Pirates each will face an opponent with a winning record over the next three days, then have three games matched up against each other.

Other than being without Votto, my main concern is the lack of off days coming up after today. Folks say it's a long season, but it's not anymore. I fear that Dusty is going to rotate players in and out of the lineup too liberally and give away some games that are very winnable. I'm thinking specifically of the day-night doubleheader coming up on Saturday. Instead of managing to keep guys fresh for October, I'd like to see the Reds make the most of their opportunities right now to make sure they get there.

From the start of the road trip the Reds lost zero games to the Cards. The Cards picked up one game from the start of the Pirates series to now (the Reds played .500 in that time and it was 10 games).

Yeah, 17 games in a row means some Dusty specials in there, but come late August they have a game off every week to the end of the season. So that will be a plus.

San Diego saved his career. They pitched him a high percentage at home, and it gave him some confidence to return to a middle of the road pitcher. GABP really got in his head. Of course Dodger stadium is also a pitcher friendly park, but he went from an ERA+ of 77 to 97 in San Diego to 101 in LA (100 is average BTW). I doubt that would have happened if he stuck with the Reds.

BTW... if a Reds pitcher has an ERA of 4.25 he is about average where as a pitcher in San Diego with a 3.6 ERA is about average. That is how much difference a ballpark can make.

Since Aug 6 (the day after the Reds/Pirates series):

Reds: 3-4
Cards: 3-4
Pirates: 3-5

Playoff fever. Catch it. :ohwell:

Whatever. As long as the season gets shorter and nobody moves in the standings, that's a net win for the Reds.
