Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Looking at the Pirates trade they really didn't give up much. The pitcher who is the closest to the majors is ok, but I am not sure he even projects as a regular major league starter. The other two may never even make the majors. I know the Astros are giving the Pirates money. I wonder if that includes money on his option year.

Looks like Dusty is giving Phillips the night off. It's been 2 weeks since the guy had 4 days off. They have the day off tomorrow. Phillips is hitting the crap out the ball. They are on the road, so some time off gives Phillips the day to hang out at the hotel before getting to the ballpark a little later. Yeah, good call Dusty.

I'm done bitching about Mr. Magoo for the time being. Every idea he has is resulting in unmitigated success. I'm just going to sit back and try to enjoy this uncanny string of luck.

EDIT: Of course, I just realized that I can't even be magnanimous about Dusty without being passive-aggressive toward him, so fuck it. He's a dumbass.

Finally got a break from little league festivities to catch up on some box scores. Noticed the Brewers pen blew a game vs the Phillies for the third straight night, and one of the Milwaukee beat writers on Twitter is now calling their pen 'The Ghastly Boys.'

I have to admit, Valdez is growing on me. Kid is a pretty smart ball player. Granted he's as Judy as Judy can get but he doesnt try to be something he's not. He bunts very well, he goes with the pitch and he runs pretty well. Found a gem of a little ball player as long as he's not trying to drive i runs which is not his forte.

And he rocks a bleached faux hawk like a 12 year old, so there's that.

anyone that has an OBP and slugging percentage under .300 has no business playing in the majors.

He's a helluva reliever though.

A full season of stats for him would look better than that. You can tell it by the way he's playing lately with a lot more opportunities. He's not a slugger by any means but he could be a .280 hitter and score some runs from the back of a lineup.

His best year is .258. He is in no way a .280 hitter. He is what he is, an old punch and judy hitter who could never get on base. His only redeeming quality is he is above average with the glove while playing the middle infield.

Think about this. In 7 season his WAR (which adds up, not an average) is 0.3. That is freaking pathetic. The definition of a replacement player.
