Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

my son said he heard them say Kearns and Boone. Branyan played for both against the other too though, according to retrosheet.

Not sure how his name escaped us both. Good call.

Side note, when he lived in Cinci he lived one floor above my buddy's gma, who goes by the name of Arlene Boyne. They swapped mail once a week or so

Chapman is starting to get a little wild vs. earlier in the year. He has to start using more than the fastball if he wants to keep up his earlier dominance.

Overall can't complain too much. They actually got some productive outs with men on base, Latos only had 1 bad inning but got out of it with minimal damage, and the bullpen did give up a run but the Indians never put the tying run on base. Let's see if they can sweep and salvage what was looking like an awful homestand.

Of course then comes 17 of the next 23 on the road before the break, including an 11 game west coast trip. That will determine if this team can hang in this race or not.

I may complain about the Reds, but damn it must be frustrating to be a Braves fan this year. They are like the Jay Bruce of baseball teams. The won 6 then lost 4 in a row. They also have an 8 game losing streak and stretch where they won 10 of 11 (which came after losing 4 in a row).

That was a fun game. Bought the cheapest ticket I could get and stood the entire time in the concourse behind home plate. Brought by in-attendance record back up to .500 (2-2) on the year.

My only frustration tonight was with Wilson Valdez. Besides his very presence, he pissed me off by his "bunt attempt" in the middle of the game. He's being run out there as the #2 batter (not his fault), and he's asked to bunt because he can't be trusted with a full swing. It's just so fucking backwards that I don't know what else to say.

Lowe is mad

http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2012/...s-manager-dusty-baker-following-indians-loss/

Dusty (Baker) will deny it, it has everything to do with him, you can go ask him,” Lowe said. “He (Baker) has been trying to do this (expletive) for three years, I’ve always come up with men on base.
“This goes back to my last year with the Dodgers (08), he (Baker) made up some (expletive) story, a lot of people got involved, people almost got fired over it,” Lowe said.

“You go ask him (Baker) and he’ll say he has no idea what he’s talking about. Just watch the game, Mat Latos has nothing to do with anything that had gone on. Why the (expletive) would you throw a 96 mile per hour pitch inside at a pitcher – ask him.”

When asked if the incident was made public or was something that people would commonely know about, Lowe said that “a lot of people knew about it.”

Nothing though about any history between the two could be found on the internet.

“I have zero respect for that guy (Baker), not that it matters, cuse I would imagine he would say the same about me,” Lowe said. “The (expletive) that was being said, and the denials he ended up ultimately doing – I’ll just leave it at that.”

Cain's perfect game had me thinking about Tom Browning this morning. Then I remembered that MLB.com has the radio broadcast of Browning's game posted as part of their "The Vault" podcast.

Clocking in at 48 minutes, it includes the audio for every half inning that Browning pitched. You get Young Franchester calling Mike Marshall a "skinhead". You get Joe Nuxhall (RIP) helping with the call.

I was a couple years too young to have heard this when it happened. I was old enough to be a Reds fan by then, but I didn't start hiding a radio under my pillow to listen to WLW until 1990. I've heard the call before though - I remember WLW replayed it a couple times during the 1994 strike when they needed to fill some airtime.
