Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

<playing the part of Jax today will be Honor&Glory>

I think it should be noted that these worthless fucks had the exact same record at this point last season just .5 games behind the bitches before the season washed down a gaping black hole of suck. Still not sold that this is any better than last years merry band of fucktards.

(Wow...that really felt good to say. May have to act out more often!)

I don't doubt their ability to blow this momentum, but looking at the schedule I think that would happen in two weeks when they're playing the Tigers and Indians, not this coming stretch when they're playing the Rockies and Pirates.

On the flip side, the Reds did reel off six in a row between the Yankees and Braves without much help from their two best hitters. During the win streak:

Bruce 1-for-21, 1 RBI, 1 R, 11 K.
Votto 4-for-19, 3 RBI, 1 R, 1 XBH.

Rolen appears to offer little help aside from the leather and Phillips is just now coming around after playing the past month with a gimpy hammy. BP's 2 HR game notwithstanding, the Reds played pretty well without much support from their four best everyday players.

Even with Atlanta missing Chipper and McCann, and A-Rod and Teixeira being nearly invisible for the Yankees this season, outdueling Sabathia, Beachy, and Hanson over six games is quite a feat for our merry band of fucktards.

Who else exactly qualifies as "a closer like Chapman?" Friends, there has never been "a closer like Chapman." Ever.

Check out his numbers so far this season. You've never seen anything like them: 91 batters faced, 43 strikeouts, 7 hits, 7 walks, 0 earned runs.

So what other pitchers in history have ever rolled up more than six strikeouts for every hit they allowed in a season? None, of course.

The greatest ratio ever by a pitcher who even worked 20 innings or more? It was compiled by the mysterious Ed Cushman (4.7 strikeouts per hit -- 47 K's, 10 hits) of the 1884 Milwaukee Brewers of the old United Association.

The greatest since 1900? That would be Craig Kimbrel's 4.4 whiffs per hit for the 2010 Braves (40 K's, 9 hits).

Other than those two, only Eric Gagne in 2003 (3.7) and Billy Wagner in 1999 (3.5) even piled up 3.5 punchouts for every hit. But ladies and gentlemen, we should point out that Chapman is almost DOUBLING that rate.

My Rockies are pretty damned hapless these days. I like the Reds chances of stretching their winning streak.
Nothing like paying for a ticket, watching them lose 10-3 in an embarrassing effort, and paying $8 for a beer. They should be forced to give the beer away. :mad2:

Took a screen shot of the standings with the Reds in first place..just in case..you know...it doesn't stick.

I can open the image, smile, and pretend should we be out of the race by the end of June.

On paper the Reds are a huge favorite tonight.

Yet the Rockies have a Reds killer on the mount tonight. No, not in name. Yet he is a rookie who the Reds have never faced, control issues, and the ability to strike out batters. That normally spells doom for the Reds. I am sure Christian Friedrich will never go down in the annals of baseball history, but the Reds normally have a way of making these guys look like Cy Young on his best day. Then after his career day vs. the Reds he will get rocked like no other for the rest of his (short) career before spending the rest of his life replaying this game on video to show his friends what a great pitcher he was.

Only three starts to look at but;
-20K's in 18 IP
-@SD, @SF, SEA
-70% flyball rate

Horribly small sample but if you are going to look at the K's you have to look at the rest of it.

He'll probably shut us the fuck down but I won't be shocked to see some more of the solo HR/K barrage theme play out.

Yeah, but you actually have to hit the ball to get it in the air.
