Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

I haven't seen it, was following the GameCast and the game thread at Cards Talk. Ruled a double in the box score. San Fran scorekeeper, so they're going to give the 2 RBI double to Tejada.

He hit it really hard. So hard Molina actually turned away and thought it was a HR. Yet the wind was blowing in all night, and the ball died. Rasmus was right there to make the catch (slightly on the run), but he flat out dropped it.

Doesn't really change the fact Franklin looked terrible. In most parks, on a normal night, that ball is a HR. He also gave up a shot that landed in McCovey's Cove but was just foul.

Cards could probably be 5-3, but are instead 2-6. Franklin has blown 3 saves, and two have come where Pujols and Rasmus have dropped the final out.

Either way, without Holliday right now, this team cannot score anymore than 2 or 3 runs on a good night. Tonight they got one of their runs on a wild pitch, and from what I have seen about half their other runs on the season are on weak singles and grounding into double plays with no outs, or scoring on a fielders choice with one out.

Their offense has to scratch and claw and play station-to-station to score 2 runs, while hoping that Carpenter or Garcia pitch a complete game shutout.

The other run the Giants scored was on a ball a normal RF catches.

BTW...I hate it the Reds got the DBacks 3 best pitchers (not that Saunders is anything to write home about) and the Padres 3 best pitchers. I know Latos has been out and is making his debut, but it just sucks that the schedule lined up that way. I would love to see this team go up against Harang.

I don't know about that.

One win they got against the Padres was because the late inning smash with runners on for the Pads was right at the 3B who doubled off the runner.

Just like most people who aren't La Genius's thought coming into 2011, the Cards are bad on defense, struggle to score runs if Pujols and Holliday aren't both hot and have a questionable bullpen (to be kind).

Their strength is SP and one of the big 3 is done for the year so now 3/5 of the time they go into a game with no clear edge in SP, defense, bullpen or offense.

That's asking a hell of a lot from Skip Schumaker and the rest of the caddies.
