This was touched on in the reds 2006 thread and it got me thinking of what a great symbol of the Reds pitching woes the OD starters have been.
2000 Pete Harnisch
2001 Pete Harnisch
Harnisch had a decent ML career but '00 and '01 were his last 2 and by that time he was done. 9-9 with a 5.66 ERA in only 166.1 IP over the last 2 years. He also gave up 181 Hits, 32 HR and 105 total runs in that last 161 IP. Brutal but it looks pretty damn good compared to what has followed.
2002 Joey Hamilton
'02 and '03 were the last of his Ml career as well (interesting fucking pattern) and they were even more God-awful. 4-10 with a 6.51 ERA in 135.1 IP over that span. Also had 157 Hits allowed in that 135.1 IP. Bad but things were about to get oh so much worse.
2003 Jimmy F Haynes
'03 and '04 would be the last of Jimmah's career as well. The damage, 2-15 with a 7.52 ERA in only 109.1 IP during those last 2 years. Included in the carnage a staggering 144 Hits and 64 BB in 109.1 IP. the reds continue to get worse pitching and less IP's from their "#1" starters.
2004 Corey Liddle
How bad are you when a journeyman pitcher like Liddle is the ace of your staff for the decade? Anyway, he went 7-10 with a 5.32 ERA in his only (partial) season with the Reds. He was better than that essentially his entire career before Cincy and has been better than that since being traded to Philly(Thank You Don Gullet). The fact he is doing better in Philly's stadium should quiet those who incessently harp on GAB being a bandbox. GAB is no Chavez Ravine but its launching pad status is due mostly to a potent offense and some of the worst pitching ever assembled on a ML roster calling it home.
2005 Paul Wilson
His struggles are well documented. He pitched 46.1 innings in 2005 and had to be shut down for major arm reconstruction. The best part is the Reds FO knew he was hurt halfway through 2004 (when his good year went south all of a sudden) and yet signed him to a multi year deal anyway. Luckily, the FO also brought in Milton and Ortiz to soften the blow of losing a great pitcher like Wilson. :ohwell:
2006 The only legit ML pitcher the Reds have is Harang, lets see if Miltons contract gives him the OD nod or not.
