2. I see the DL class as Martin, Thomas, Still and two of Morgan/Barksdale/Jeremiah/Brent. I tend to think Jeremiah gets in and either Brent or Morgan.

With the exception of Martin or Barksdale are rest able/willing to move to O-line.

We have 20 ships available for the 2007 class. With nine commits, that's 11 left to hand out. I think we bank 2-3 for the 2008 class which right now only has 10 available.

There are 9 available, Lyons is listed as a reshirt sophomore not a junior. There will be more than 20 ships available this year once guys like Lukens (bad shoulders) and other medical waivers/academic casulties/transfer take place. That will give the coaching staff more schollies to bank if wanted. What's going on with Brandon Underwood?

Per the site:

2005 (Redshirt): Played in the first two games (Miami and Texas), but injured his left ankle in practice prior to the San Diego State game and missed the remainder of the season.

Since he played in two games, he has used a year of eligibility for 2005 and thus the staff will have to apply for a medical redshirt to get him another year of eligibility. IIRC, you can't apply for a medical redshirt until all other eligibility (including a normal redshirt year) is used.

When a redshirt hasn't been used, the NCAA is usually pretty lenient about counting a medical redshirt as a 'normal' redshirt. Lyons played as a true frosh in 2004. Same rules apply to Gholston, Nicol, Rehring, and Freeman.

In your own post do you see the word (redshirt)?????

On the official OSU team website which you reference, Lyons is listed as a redshirt sophomore.

18 Devon Lyons *WR 6-4 214 Jr. So. North Braddock, Pa./Woodland HillsConsumer Affairs 9/7/86 George Novak

I guess your right and the OSU website is wrong......... "Stay the course" Milli!

Anyways, I predict another great ending to this years recruiting come February. With so many choices to fill the remaining schollies, I doubt we will see any colosal meltdowns on Bucknuts etc. Tressel has things rolling right now.

Bingo. You've never seen roster/classification errors on their website?

If you question that, then Freeman, Gholston and Rehring are in the same boat as Lyons, as all four played.

I'm quite sure that the NCAA grants one medical redshirt quite freely if the player hasn't sat out a year already. For example, Mike D'Andrea could have played this year even though he participated in each of the last four years. It's the sixth year that they are sticklers about.

IIRC, someone had posted a while back the exact NCAA rules on this which stated medical redshirts were to be applied for after all other eligibility had been exhausted. Maybe the NCAA has changed its stance (I searched the forums for the rules, but can't find them). If the medial redshirt criteria is as you say, then that would make sense...
