USC Should have the #1 class after February

I've been hearing they'll land a sick class that includes:

Taylor Mays
Stafon Johnson
CJ Gable (if he makes the grades)
Josh Tatum
Antwine Perez
Butch Lewis
David Ausberry
Mark Johnson

along with their typical surprises. It's good to be king, and USC is definetly sitting on the throne now. The funny thing about the above list is that its most defensive kids, except at the two spots they need the most, DT and CB (unless you count Gable as Corner, and Lewis as a DT). They're deep at Safety and at linebacker, but kids still want to attach their wagons to USC; whatever floats their boat I guess.

I imagine if OSU can fill their class with the remaining top Ohio kids, it would make sense to land in the top 5, and #1 in the big ten.

I don't remember USC's cubbard being quite this bare by this same time a year ago, but USC typically heats up during the middle of the recruiting season, and finishes with a couple of extra 5*'s during the last month. I don't feel sorry for their lack of verbals, because I know in the end, they will get theirs.

Funny thing you mentioned UCLA, because I noticed earlier and forgot to mention that Chane Moline is not listed by Scout as being one of their commitments, which makes the fact that they're in the top 10 without him just that much more impressive. He'd be another 4* on top of that. Makes ya wonder if he really verballed or not...

And how about Texas A&M being up there?? They're an eye catcher too

All of the Texas kids are committing early-Texas,A&M, and Oklahoma are cleaning up early in Texas-I have never seen this many early verbals out of the state of Texas. I think OSU can make a run at Texas if we make a clean sweep in-state, and land a couple of OOS big names-Wallace and Reuland would do nicely. FSU has 8 or 9 commits, but just one Top 100 guy-Brandon Warren. I am sure they will close w/ a major rush on signing day like they usually do. Miami has a commit from a Top 100 QB-Pat Devlin, but they have not really gotten rolling yet-they will shoot up the charts once the S. Fla kids start to announce.

Definitely right on USC getting their's in the end, though they were pretty light on the boards early on.

The timing of USC's commits last year -- by the end of July last year they had 1 5* player (Sanchez - QB).

Then they had a "drought" till October during which they netted 2 - 4* and 1 - 3* players. Then another gap and in December 1 - 5*, 2 - 4* and 1 - 3* recruits. January was a big month 2 - 5* prospects and 1 - 4* talent. Going up to NLOID they put the icing on the cake with 2 more 5* blue-chippers and 3 - 4* athletes.

Gee, I guess even USC needs a little depth.

All of the Texas kids are committing early

A lot of kids seem to be committing early period. Thirty six of the top 100 have already made their call (nine of those to schools in Texas and Oklahoma) and that is way ahead of past years. This is a remarkable number for this point in the process.

Interestingly none of those are to USC, but 34 of the remaining 64 players name USC in their schools of interest.

Something you should edit into your post is the top-100 players landed.

It would make your post unwieldy but I also like to look at players who are top 10 or top 20 at their position. Those top 100 lists tend to be biased towards certain positions, but you have to field an entire team.

Eventually the depth chart will catch up to USC. More and more guys coming out of high school are almost demanding immediate playing time. It is rare for a kid to have that kind of impact although it happens.

USC has takent the pick of the litter for 3-4 years now and not as many of them are going pro early. They are still stacked at most positions and some of the blue-ist of the blue chippers would rather get early playing time. They will still land a top five class this season but maybe this is the year the depth chart finally catches up with them. With Pete Carroll running things I don't count them out just yet.

Dude, they've already landed all of those guys. SILENT VERBALS.

USC could get the first big commit in a week or two from safety Taylor Mays. We lost out on the #1 RB in Texas to Oklahoma State a week or so ago.

Sanchez really got things rolling for us last year, but you can't expect that kind of thing to happen every year.

I imagine recruiting will really take off for us in a few days when Chris Wells switches and commits to the Trojans! Records will be set on the Bucknuts recruiting board that day.
