RECRUITING FORUM RULES - EVERYONE READ BEFORE POSTING

This is the only forum on this site where we ask posters to follow a few simple rules. These rules are in place due to the frequent visits from parents, coaches, and the players themselves. Therefore it is imperative that we respect these visitors and portray the site in a positive light.

1) No Cursing on the Recruiting Forum...of any form or degree.

2) Absolutely No bashing of a recruit...regardless of his choices, we will not partake in the bashing of a 17 year old kid.

3) Do not post Premium Info from other sites...summaries with a link are as far as we can legally go. Do not Cut and Paste from Scout/Rivals even if the article is free. Summarize and link just to be safe.

4) Don't hijack a player's thread...if you feel the subject matter moving away from the player, you are only causing the Mods more work. This forum is about the kids first...

5) Do not try to contact or influence a recruit on this board. While it is acceptable to relate the strengths of the Ohio State University in a general way, please do not cross the line and start begging, pleading, cajoling, etc. recruits to become Buckeyes. Not only is such conduct often counterproductive (the school and the football program should be able to "sell" themselves, and the coaching staff doesn't really need your help), it could also be a violation of NCAA recruiting rules. All "open letters" to recruits will be deleted. Simply, if you tell a recruit he needs to be a Buckeye because of X, Y, and Z...you are crossing the line.

6) Negativity about a recruit, although not bashing the player, needs to be handled with care. There is not a problem with stating feelings about a recruit's possibilities of going elsewhere. However, please make sure that the post fits into the flow of conversation. Opinions will vary following various updates and are welcome in the forums. This, however, does not mean a poster should make a definite proclamation out of the blue or consistently interject their negative thoughts over and over. If you are convinced of a player going elsewhere and are not involved in the updates being provided, simply read the thread and pass on the posting.

7) Please don't post things like "Anything new?" or "Anyone hearing anything?" or any variation of the sort. When info or news is available, we will post it.

Usually, these problems are handled by edits and simple PMs. However, if you continue to disregard these simple rules, the Warning System will have to be used.

If you have any questions or concerns, PM one of the Mods or Admins for clarification.

Guys, we appreciate any help that is offered in terms of summaries we miss or new prospects. However, if you want to start a new thread, please follow the Prospect Form we have been using (shown below). Also, please make sure that tOSU has interest in this player. Plenty of players will list tOSU, but that interest will not always be returned. Start the threads, but don't take offense if we move them to the Reference Locker until more information becomes available.

Attention: Fans of Other Schools

Gentleman, first and foremost, everyone is welcome on BP. However, many of you need to realize this is a tOSU forum. There will be comments concerning other schools...especially TSUN. You are free to debate and defend as much as you desire...except in the recruiting forum.

Promoting another school is not going to be tolerated in these forums. You can provide news, updates, summaries, etc...but we do not allow open letters from BP members to players and we certainly do not allow other fans to come on these boards and trash tOSU.

I'm preaching to the choir mostly here as the regulars among the visiting fans have always shown respect, but a recent influx has crossed the line one too many times.

Please remember where you are...or you will not be here long.

As various lists become available (Rankings, All-State honors, etc.), please post the entire list or a link, if it is on a premium service, in one thread instead of individual threads that will flood the board with redundant news.

After a few recent episodes, any form of personal information regarding a recruit will be deleted. This includes any pages on MySpace, FaceBook, AOL, or any other form of personal communication including Handles or Screen Names on various messengers. The only acceptable pages we will display are team or school pages. Thank you for your cooperation.

LJB's explanation of the policy on premium info is so good, everyone needs to read it...this thread will be merged or deleted later, but everyone needs to understand this policy as warnings are getting close for some people.

LordJeffBuck said:
As most of you are aware, the cost of a premium subscription to Bucknuts, BSB, or any other recruiting site includes access not only to articles written by the staff, but also to premium message boards and "chats" which are open only to the paying members and staff. Thus, anything which is posted on a premium message board or "chat", even if it originates from a poster and not a paid staff member, is "paid" information, and we do not allow any such information to be re-posted over here. It is our belief (and policy) that premium message posts are not "news" (see below) because they contain either "opinion", or facts which are not intended for general release (i.e., "proprietary information").

Premium article summaries are different from message board posts in that a brief review of an article constitutes the publication of "news" - because no one owns the news, it can be reposted here, or anywhere. However, we do not allow quotes from premium articles, or summaries of the author's opinions, as such items go beyond "news" and become "proprietary information", which of course is owned by the publisher (BN, BSB, etc.).

We trust that all of you understand this policy, and can abide by it. Of course, the mods and admins will be vigilant in deleting "proprietary" material, but those posters who repeatedly "poach" premium information from any other site will be warned and/or banned.

Contact w/ recruits...

I know this is a basketball article, but it is related to the kind of things that go on with this website, particularly as it relates to OSU football. Please keep in mind that your interactions with recruits can have consequences for the program if you take it too far. There are recruits that read this site, and if they're coming here and posting, that is not harmful. However, I have seen people on here pull up myspace pages of recruits and things of that ilk, and that starts getting into dangerous territory. We all want good kids and good athletes to suit it up in the 'Shoe, but Tressel & Co. can do just fine on their own without the help of people like us. Let them do their thing.

I'm not saying anybody here has done or is doing anything like this, but it's something that we should all keep in the back of our minds as recruiting heats up this year.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica] LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky self-reported a secondary NCAA violation because of postings on a potential recruit's MySpace.com website, apparently by fans.
The postings on the site of West Virginia high school basketball star Patrick Patterson, who just completed his junior year at Huntington High School, tried to entice him to attend Kentucky, WLEX-TV in Lexington reported.
"Fans are not allowed to interact with recruitable student athletes," Kentucky athletics spokesman Scott Stricklin said Wednesday. "We had to report that to the NCAA."
Patterson, a 6-foot-8 center, was named the West Virginia Player of the Year this year and led Huntington High to its second straight state title, compiling 23 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocked shots in the championship game. For the regular season, he averaged 14.5 points, 11 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game and has had interest from several Division I colleges.
Stricklin said when fans contact potential recruits, the school tries to educate them not do to that or it will hurt the school.
He said if that takes care of the problem, there would likely be no further action.

We are still having way too many instances of people not following the rules we have laid out for the recruiting forum...especially the language. A couple of times a day we are having to edit people posts because of cursing. Warnings and bumping the rules have obviously not gotten people's attention so we are going to start handing out infractions until people get the message. If the results are some people have their access to the recruiting forum temporarily suspended, then so be it.

Time to tighten down guys...

Visitors, we respect your outside perspective, but if you are hear to spew propaganda for your team, you will not last long. The hijacking of threads to spout off about your team's chances/why your school is the logical choice ends now.

For the BP crew, please do not allow yourself to be drawn into the discussions that take away what we have built here. If someone is not following the high standards we demand in this recruiting forum, let a mod know and it will be handled immediately.

However, the warnings are over...the situation is not improving and it is past time to start removing people.

One more time...

If you see a premium article we haven't summarized yet, be patient, PM a mod or even consider buying a subscription so you don't have to wait on us...

...but please quit calling for updates in threads.

Just yesterday I had to edit 4 posts in the recruiting forum because of language...obviously we haven't made it clear enough...no swearing of any kind will be tolerated in the recruiting forum. This is a group warning...the next one I have to edit is going to have an infraction tied to it.
