Recruiting Forum Reminder

I'm really not sure how else to handle this one besides infractions/warnings so I'll take one more stab with a request so those actions will be completely justified.

The garbage in the recruiting forums is starting to pile up again...small incidents are building into a frustrating mess that we do not want or allow on BuckeyePlanet.

Minor cursing, premium info, "anything new?", hijacks, comedy routines, borderline pleading with recruits, discussing anything besides the sole subject of the thread, etc...it has to stop.

If you want that type of banter, take it to another site. We have one strict forum on this site and that will not change. However, we need to tighten down as a community.

Use PMs if you see something...either to the user in question or a mod. We see a number of you trying to steer threads back on course but also see a number of you as consistent problems.

As you read this and the thought of "this is not a big deal" crosses your mind, I agree 100%...however, these minor details are what separate this forum from the rest.

Grazie.

My two cents.... The only other alternative is a complete lock down of the forum, with all threads being "read only". We'll keep posting the updates and provide our own commentary, and you'll still be able to follow along ... just without the ability to respond to anything that you read. That would be much easier for us to manage ... and much less interesting for you. So, do your part, follow the few rules that we have, and we won't be compeled to make any changes.

This is the one forum on the entire site that I've always said has to be strictly controlled and moderated. Part of that is to make it manageable for us, a bigger part is that each of these threads has a name in the title. That name represents a kid, the kid has a family and friends, and these people often find our site through Google and other search engines. The recruiting forum represents us more as a community than any other area of the site. It is, by far, the biggest "one time" traffic point where outsiders find a thread, read it, and move on. It's where we have to put our best face forward, out of respect for the people we're talking about, out of respect for our own program, and certainly out of respect for ourselves and those who provide the information we so desire.

BP has always been about enabling conversation. This isn't a matter of restricting folks, it's about appropriate places and times. With so many different forums, there's a proper place for everything, and I hope we can all make sure that we're keeping this one forum the way it needs to be. The solution is simple, just heed the simple warning that faces you every single time you post in this forum. The following are not permitted: "Profanity -- Bashing recruits -- Open Letters -- Premium Info -- 'Any News?' -- Off-topic material."

I think that wouldn't be so bad. Perhaps we (you) could just lock the player threads. I would like that because when there is a new post in the thread people will know it has new information in it rather than a "we really need this kid" post. All the "we really need this kid" and "he would look good in scarlet and gray" stuff could go in the Recruiting general discussion threads, or CFB's look at recruiting threads ect. Or maybe we could have individual threads for positions, for instance, a thread for D-Line recruiting where all questions about updates on Barksdale could go.

2 cents.
