The Dunk Abides
  • My mom just had a brain tumor removed. Glioblastoma is actually becoming commonplace for some reason. If you can donate anything, my family would appreciate it. Prayers, money, anything. I humbly request help. I'm not one to do this. And I'm basically revealing my true self, but I don't care. It's my mom.

    Or hit me up privately and I'll get you a Facebook link (not a FB fan but fuck cancer).

    Thanks.

    Sorry to hear this TDunk. I lost my sister a year ago this month to the exact same thing. I know the road you and your family travel will not be an easy one.

    Not sure where your mom’s treatment is being done, but if you are at the James, I can say the people and the care there are amazing.

    Best wishes

    @TDunk any updates?
    Sorry, been busy trying to get her affairs in order. Seems she got scammed by some assholes for $500. Her staples were removed yesterday and has appointments with radiation, oncology, and others today. Thank you all for the prayers and donations. She is a fighter though and in good spirits. She has left sided weakness and has named her left hand Anita because that was her Spanish name in high school. So she tells Anita to cooperate. It helps having her twin sister being a lawyer. And also having nurses and a geneticist who can understand labs/clinical trials in the family.

    Mine was Patricio. These things are tough to go through but it's part of life for everyone. She's lucky she has you and her whole family there with her supporting you.

    I'm a nurse. I've been involved with patients that code. And had both outcomes. We all are prepared for what can happen. Some more than others, but that is life. Family is key. Hug a loved one, call them, or hell text them. It might be the last interaction.

    There's so many people that don't have that. My aunt and uncle on my father's side is a prime example. For whatever reason despite her excellent upbringing she decided to live selfishly. She married a man that had two kids and from an early age they were told that they were out the door once they hit 18. They were raised without love and treated as expenses, like an unwanted monthly bill. One joined the marines at 17 and lost all contact with them. The second one was in a terrible motorcycle accident when he was 17 and spent considerable time in the hospital. When he got out his room had already been converted into a sewing room. They allowed him to convalesce and then kicked him out. He tried involving them in his life after he married and had kids but they wanted nothing to do with him or being grandparents. He too drifted away until recently. His father had been in a care facility for some time and in that time my aunt developed severe dementia and was found wandering the neighborhood. She even called me once looking for my father who has been dead for over a year. The younger one had to go out to where they live, arrange for her to be in a care facility and put their affairs in order. The two of them are in some home waiting for death and no one goes to see them. Oh well, all those cruises they took must have been pretty nice.
