RB07OSU's BIG Breakdown

For some reason, I hardly remember the Iowa game from last year. I do remember the Vandenberg game tho - The Buckeyes were up by 2 TD's and had just returned an INT for a score that was called back for an off-sides penalty which was a suspect call, as I remember. Late in the 4th. Woulda, coulda, shoulda been up 3 scores with something like 5:00 to go. Then the wheels almost fell off.

Somehow Iowa has this reputation among a lot of fan and media as to being a strong opponent as against OSU. Like they're likely to beat us some percentage of time approaching half. But, they've won 14 games in .. what 100 years or whatever. So.. I just find myself to mention that Iowa is no particular foil to Ohio State historically. Hell, OSU beat them when THEY were the number 1 team in the land back in the 80s. Unsurprisingly, OSU finished 9-3 that year. ;P

Iowa game last year: the clock stopped Ohio State from scoring more times than Iowa did. Ohio State had the ball at the end of the first half and at the end of the game. Iowa stopped Ohio State on fourth down in the first half around the 35 yard line (too far for a field goal try, too close to punt). I believe Ohio State had no turnovers, no missed field goals, and no punts. Of course, Iowa was leading for most or all of the first half. But the second half was just the long pass play and that's it. Also, 5'9" Roby got ejected for targetting the head of a 6'8" tight end. Apparently, shoulders count as heads. Meh. Remember it now?

As for 2009, or was that 2008? I think it was 2009. I remember Ohio State scored to go up 2 touchdowns. Iowa returned the next kickoff for a touchdown. Ohio State had to punt, and, down by 7, Iowa drove down the field for the tying touchdown. That drive included the offsides play that had the interception that was returned for the touchdown, as well as a play where 2 Buckeyes jumped up and should have had an interception, neither got it, but the Iowa receiver did. Yeah - Vandenberg played really well. He got help from his players, though, as all good players should.

Ohio State has always had Iowa's number, from what I can remember. I remember a loss to Iowa in 2004... and that's about the only one I can think of off the top of my head. There was a tie to Iowa in about 1988, but everyone tied Iowa that year. If there's ever a fan base that should hate Ohio State, it's that one. Just for 1985, but also for ~1991 (touchdown with 1 second left for OSU win), 2009, and 2010. Probably some others in there, too.
