RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

I was really pulling for Rod to make it. I don't think this failed test alone was the reason for the dismissal but rather the body of work since Rod stepped on campus. I am glad to see that his scholarship was not yanked and that he will be allowed to graduate. Hopefully he takes full advantage of that opportunity and makes the best of it.

I don't disagree with any of those who think Smith has been a bonehead. But I wish that weed were not included in the drug testing protocol. I just don't see the value in making the Buckeye football program into an extension of the police department. And searching without warrant, no less.

Until it is legal, it will be included into a pee test because it is still a very cheap, illegal street drug for college kids to get.

So is alcohol till you're 21. Should players be subjected to random breathalyzer testing?

The problem with that analogy is that we should just abandon all urine testing then. When a player shows up for practice Monday and there are traces of illegal drugs in his system, its much easier to curb the issue with testing. If it wasn't for testing, Noah Spence wouldn't be getting the help he needs.

Bottom line (as I said in the Rumor Mill), if you want a free scholarship and the opportunity to play top level college football, don't do drugs.

I agree with your bottom line, SERE. Just continue to believe that urine testing should be limited to performance enhancing drugs only. Your point about Spence is valid, though.
