RB Quinshon Judkins (Official Thread)

Yesterday we saw 1st hand what Quinshon Judkins is capable of:

9 carries, 108 yards, 12.0 ave, 2 TDs, and that doesn't count the "monster TD run" that was called back due to a penalty*.

*Land-Grant Holy Land: There was another questionable call on Ohio State’s first offensive play of the second quarter, where a holding penalty was called on Bryson Rodgers to negate what would have been an 80-yard touchdown run by Quinshon Judkins. The former Ole Miss running back would wind up scoring a 23-yard touchdown later on the drive anyway, but it was a real ticky-tack call on what was an electric run by Judkins.

Ohio State Running Back Quinshon Judkins Bursts Onto the Scene in Columbus With 108-Yard Performance

148952_h.jpg

Quinshon Judkins arrived at Ohio State eight months ago, but his true arrival on the scene for the Buckeyes came on Saturday.

On a night when Ohio State got all the strides it was looking for in the running game, Judkins’ were the longest – in terms of yardage, that is. The Ole Miss transfer running back gobbled up 108 yards to lead all ball carriers despite having what would have been the longest run of the evening called back, and he did so on just nine carries.

“You see the whole line play together as a whole, and I’m just in stride with the team as a whole and we came out and performed as a team,” Judkins said after the game. “Everybody came together.”

Judkins’ vision, physicality and burst running the football were a big part of why the Buckeyes collected 273 yards on the ground against Western Michigan in a 56-0 victory.

“You can see it,” Day said of Judkins. “Strong running, home run hitting ability. I thought he and (TreVeyon Henderson) both ran well today. We even had the one that got called back with Quinshon. I feel like we had a good mix in the game today. A lot of guys touched the ball. I thought Chip (Kelly) called a good game, a mix of run and pass.”

Judkins’ first game in the Scarlet and Gray didn’t go as swimmingly as his second, though some run-blocking lapses contributed to that fact. Judkins rushed for 55 yards on 13 carries, averaging just 4.2 yards per tote, though he did collect his first touchdown in Columbus.

Nothing changed in his weekly preparation after that outing, however. Clearly, it didn’t have to, as he averaged 12 yards per carry and scored twice more against the Broncos.

“(I had) the same routine that I have going into each and every week, but our preparation and the tools that our coaches give us as far as when we gameplan on these teams, looking at every team and the way we prepare (is) the same,” Judkins said.

I really thought he was more of a pounder vs Akron. Nope. That isn't him. He can fly and has shake too. What a 1-2 punch!
That's what I thought too but I guess mostly because he is so built. Dude has burst and top end speed, and hits the hole fast if it's there. I can just imagine defenses going "Henderson came off the field, thank god...oh right, here comes Judkins." As the OL continues to improve and Judkins meshes with the OL in live action, our run game is going to be really fun to watch and that includes Peoples as well.

Just sayin': Definitely a great transfer portal pickup. Assuming the Buckeyes get into the B1G Championship Game and CFPs, it's going to be a long season and 2 top tier RBs (Henderson and Judkins) is a real luxury for the offense.

Mic Check: Quinshon Judkins' Explosiveness Boosting Run Game, Catching Ryan Day's Eye

149137_h.jpg

With "improvement week" in the books, Ohio State has moved back into a normal game week and that means Marshall is set for a beatdown in The Shoe this Saturday.

Ahead of that contest, Ryan Day met with the media yesterday to discuss his program. Among many topics was how Ohio State's rushing attack dominated Western Michigan before the bye week. Yes, you'd expect the Buckeyes to chew up yards at their leisure against a MAC opponent but considering that wasn't the case in the season opener against another MAC foe, the 273 yards on seven yards per carry against the Broncos was a welcome sight for Day.

Even better, transfer tailback Quinshon Judkins looked outstanding against WMU, as part of Ohio State's superb running back tandem alongside TreVeyon Henderson.

When asked about Judkins' big outing against Western Michigan, Day offered praise for the Ole Miss transfer.

"He's learned the offense. I think there's certain things that we do that's different from where he came from. So learning that was something he jumped into early on. He and TreVeyon have a great relationship...But you can see what he can do with the ball in his hands, and the explosiveness, and the power he has when he runs and in protection. I thought he did a good job picking up a couple things too, so he's growing. He's building. You can see what a weapon he is for us when he's out there."– Ryan Day on Quinshon Judkins
