Pepe Pearson (born December 11, 1975) is a former American football tailback, starting in college for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Playing career
A four-year letterwinner at Ohio State, Pearson is the Buckeye?s fifth all-time leading rusher (3,121 yards), trailing only Archie Griffin, Eddie George, Tim Spencer, and Keith Byars. His 1,484 rushing yards as a junior is the sixth highest season total in team history. With 17 touchdowns, Pearson is eleventh of the Buckeyes' scoring list. Pearson's most successful game was a 173-yard rushing performance in Ohio State's 1996 victory over Notre Dame.

His greatest professional success came in NFL Europe where scored the game-winning touchdown for the Rhein Fire to win the 2000 World Bowl Championship. He later spent time with the Dayton Warbirds, an expansion team in the National Indoor Football League.

Coaching career
After his playing career ended, Pearson began a career in coaching. Since 2004 he has been the running backs coach for Ohio Dominican University. In 2005 he was also the head coach of the Daytona Beach Hawgs of the NILF, leading them to a playoff berth just before the team was disbanded.

Pearson leaving Silverbacks
09/23/07 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) Miami Valley Silverbacks

The Miami Valley Silverbacks lost a member of their coaching staff in Pepe Pearson.

The Silverbacks' running backs coach has left the organization to become the head coach/general manager of the Marion Mayhem.

"We are sad to see Pepe leave after everything he has done for the program," Silverbacks president Matthew King said. "But, we are pleased to see another member of our organization move up the ladder of professional indoor football."

Pearson, a former standout at Ohio State, will still get a chance to see his old friends as the Silverbacks and Mayhem rivalry will continue in 2008.

"We wish Pepe the best of luck in his new position," King said. "We wish Pepe all the luck in his new position, except when he plays against us."

Former Buckeye to coach Mayhem
Marion team owners take new direction with Pepe Pearson

The Marion Star

MARION - Former Ohio State University running back Pepe Pearson will be hired next week as the new head coach and general manager of the Marion Mayhem Continental Indoor Football League team.

"The Mayhem have decided to go in a new direction with the hiring of former Ohio State running back Pepe Pearson," Mayhem co-owner and vice president Fred Horner said in a statement Monday evening.

The Miami Valley Silverbacks team of the CIFL had earlier announced on its Web site that Pearson, the Silverbacks' running backs coach, had left that organization to come to Marion.

Pearson will replace Nathan DeGasperis in the Mayhem positions. DeGasperis, currently an assistant coach at Canton McKinley High School, did not have his Mayhem contract renewed.
A formal announcement of Pearson's appointment will be made on Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Marion.

Maybe the ex-Bucks can blind the Eagles by flashing their assorted championship bling. Just for the record, Pearson only wears his 1997 Rose Bowl ring on special occasions. This game might qualify.

"I was just telling the kids the other day that I'm here to share my experiences and the mentality it takes to play the game," said Pearson, the Panthers' running back coach. "I think the kids appreciate it; it gives them a different perspective."

Pearson has been on board since Dominican started a football program six years ago. He was part-time until Conley took over, splitting his time between the Columbus school and his duties the last two years as GM/head coach of the Marion Mayhem indoor football team. The Mayhem went 16-10 under Pearson.

"The thing I've learned through this whole process is that when I first got (to ODU) we were 0-10. Then we went 3-7, 7-3 and 12-1, making it to the NAIA playoff quarterfinals," Pearson said. "I had never lost on any level until I got here, so the whole process was an experience for me. Things aren't going that well right now, but we understand it's a process."

Bio
Pepe Pearson returns for his ninth season as the running backs coach for the Panthers. Prior to joining ODU?s coaching staff in its inaugural season of 2004, Pearson served as an assistant coach at St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus for one year.

The Panthers have rewritten the school?s rushing records over the past two seasons as running back Mike Noffsinger was named a Harlon Hill Trophy Candidate as one of the best Division II players in the country. Noffsinger set school single-season and career rushing marks for yards and touchdowns as the Panthers finished 2011 with the best rushing offense in program history. ODU also ranked third in the conference in rushing yards per game.

Pearson, a standout tailback for The Ohio State University, helped lead the Buckeyes to four straight bowl appearances from 1994-1997, including a 1997 Rose Bowl victory. A four-year letter winner for the Buckeyes, Pearson gained 1,484 yards and 17 touchdowns on 299 carries his junior year, and was selected All-Big Ten and team Most Valuable Player (MVP). He is the Buckeyes? fifth all-time leading rusher with 3,121 yards while playing under former head coach John Cooper.

After completing his college career, Pearson played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers. He also played in NFL Europe, where he won the 2000 World Bowl Championship with the Rhein Fire, scoring the game-winning touchdown.

After Pearson?s decorated playing career came to a close, he jumped into the coaching arena. Pearson was the head coach of the Daytona Beach Hawgs in 2005-2006, formerly of the National Indoor Football League Arena Football Team, and was the Head Coach and General Manager of the Marion Mayhem, a member of the Continental Indoor Football League from 2007-2009. He led his team to the 2009 conference championship with a record of 9-3.

A 1998 graduate of The Ohio State University majoring in Sociology, Pearson was a four-year starter and high school All-American at Euclid High School.
