RB Miyan “Chop” Williams (Toronto Argonauts)

SKULL SESSION: SHAUN WADE REFLECTS ON THE TARGETING CALL, CRAIG YOUNG IS BEING MOLDED INTO A LINEBACKER, AND MIYAN WILLIAMS RECOVERS FROM THUMB SURGERY

HEAL UP, FAT BOY.
Ohio State's newest ball-runner went under the knife yesterday for surgery on his thumb, and by all accounts, he made it out the other end all good.

As an aside, I appreciate the hell out of Miyan's Twitter display name of "Fat Boy." When you run a 4.74-second 40-yard dash as a running back, you kinda have to just own it. And that's owning it.

He ran a 4.74 40? Marotti's got some work to do

Just sayin'; I don't think he'll ever be a speed burner and/or breakaway back, etc. We need him to be the guy that will get you the yards on 3rd and 1, or 1st and goal running between the tackles. I agree, Marotti's got some work to do, but I don't think it has anything to do with 4.75 in the 40. He just needs to be stronger and quicker, not necessarily faster. However, a little faster would be a good thing too. I envision him eventually being a "Jim Otis type of running back"; hit the hole quick, rarely being tackled for a loss, strength to move the pile forward, and consistently picking up 3, 4, 5, or 6 yards a carry.

That would be just fine with me. He does look like a hard-nosed runner

If he can get 1 yard at a 90% clip against an elite line when the world knows what the call is then he has very clear role on this and any other team. Even if he never has a run for 2 or more. Though I would call that a pipe dream.

I'm thinking a bigger Boom Herron is good model to shoot for

It's all subjective; however, I'll say both Jim Otis and Dan Herron are pretty much the "same model" even though each played in a different era. Boom (5' 10" & 215 lbs, ranked #18) and Otis (6' 0" & 220 lbs, ranked #16) have very similar stats and are ranked #16 and #18 on Ohio State's all time list:

Yes, subjective as in I'm 32 and know of Jim Otis but certainly didn't watch him run around.

Hyde ran a 4.62 at the combine.

Didn't he injure his hamstring during his run tho? Carlos ran more like a low 4.5's guy on tape; he had quite a few breakaway runs. But if Miyan can become a Hyde replica, that would be a homerun for us and I am all for it. Mike Weber's speed improved noticeably from his freshman to sophomore season so it's certainly possible for Miyan to be a 4.6 guy
