RB Michael Wiley (Official Thread)

Yertle

Pounding out aggression, turns into obsession
Okay, so I didn't see his official thread (and yes, I used the search function). I have a relatively boring story, but I have nothing else to do right now...

My youngest brother's bachelor party was this past Saturday, and we started the day off with tee times at Safari golf course (12:00, so I had to tape the Spring Game). Anyways, loads of beers and shots of Jack later, I was on about the 12 hole. I hooked my ball into the fairway to the left and almost hit this dude. I drove over and apologized like crazy, and he said "no problem, how have you been? What a great day...how are you hitting them" and all kinds of other nice things. Well, he instantly looked familiar and was so nice I thought I knew him from somewhere. Anyways, we ran into each other a couple other times, and he was very talkative each time. Then, at the end of the round, he came in the club house and watched the Cavs game with us, and introduced himself to the group of 10 guys I was with. Eventually, it dawned on me that it was Michael Wiley (bet you didn't see that coming). He was the nicest guy in the world. I couldn't get over how out-going he was, and just genuinely happy to be talking to Buckeye fans. He was with a big ND fan, who we thoroughly harassed too. Great start to a great day!

By the way, I ended the day getting flashed in a White Castle drive through. How many of you can claim that!?!? I mean seriously, how many people have met Michael Wiley AND seen boobs at a White Castle in the same day???

Yeah. He was with a buddy of his (big ND fan) and two women. One of the women was decent looking and one was... well, let's see...how do I put this.... not. I think they were paired up together since the women left immediately after the round, and they hung out for a while.

Again, extremely cool dude with no ego at all from what I could tell. Also, we were all wearing Buckeyes gear of some kind or another (due to the spring game), which he thought was great. It's nice to see the excitement in OSU with the alumni.

A Wiley project
Former Ohio State University running back Michael Wiley is a partner in After Five, the latest restaurant and bar trying to succeed at 482 S. Front St.

Wiley and partner Cameron Jackson expect a Sept. 7 opening, just in time for the OSU-Akron game the following day.

For Wiley, who left Ohio State in 1999 and played four years in the pros, After Five is his first "hands-on, nitty-gritty" business venture.

Wiley said he will be at the restaurant "99.9 percent of the time" it's open during the first month of business. He also is finishing up his college courses and hopes to graduate within the next year.

Michael Wiley, football (1996-99)
On why he decided to finish his degree after playing with the NFL?s Dallas Cowboys

?Initially, coming back to finish my degree (in sociology) was something I had promised my mother but I have two children now. My wife has her degree and 15 years from now, I don?t want to be sitting at the dinner table and have my children use the fact that I don?t have a degree as an excuse for them.

Right now, I?m not only doing this for myself but for my family and I only have five hours left before I graduate with a degree in sociology.

Besides taking classes, I recently opened up a restaurant called After 5 in the Brewery District (in Columbus). With work, school and a family, it definitely is a balancing act. It?s tougher than I though it would be but I?ve been handling it. Plus, for my volunteer hours, I work at study tables in the computer lab and work with the football players at the Woody Hayes Athletics Center.?

Wiley's average gain was nearly nine yards every time he touched the football with the Cowboys.
