RB John Clay (official thread)

He should have three fun years playing behind Hill. :)

I don't know about that one. Despite Hill's success during the regular season, he looked very, very slow against Arkansas in the bowl game. And I expect his numbers will fall next year as defenses are able to key on him more considering the fact that UW will be breaking in a new QB.

That stinks. I guess he will get a whole year to bring the grades up.

does this burn a year or does he still get 4 or 5?

If he goes to a prep school he gets the whole 5 years. I imagine that is what he will do, the Badgers stuck Daven Jones from Glenville in a prep school for a year and then resigned him this past class. Following his recruitiment, I was led to believe Clay was a better student than what this obviously indicates.

Personally I think it sucks to see any kid blow a great opportunity like this. They have the world handed to them for 4-5 years.... To not take advantage of this is a sad sad thing.....I guess I am getting old..but I wish I could convey to these kids what opportunity they have been given... there are millions of kids across the country who would love to be blessed with the god given abilities they posses... Good luck John.. and take care of business... take advantage of the MILLIONS of opportunities that god (or whatever) has blessed you with...

Clay attains grades to qualify

According to the Racine Journal Times (Clay's hometown paper), John Clay received the grades to qualify at the University of Wisconsin. Now it's just a matter of making it official with the academic clearinghouse. Regardless of the outcome, he shouldn't be ready to play for the opener against Wazzu.

This report should probably be taken with some level of skepticism because the prior prior report claimed to be official that he was disqualified, which proved untrue (Jeff Potrykus posts over on the Badger Scout board and has received an earful). However, this is grounds for optimism certainly from Badger fans. I should have figured that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was bogus, since summer school was far from wrapping, but I blindly trusted Potrykus because he was thought to be credible. Never again.
