From the Iowa site...talks about his visit to Iowa this past weekend.

From the Iowa site...more on the visit. Iowa was his first offer, followed by Wisconsin and West Virginia. Also hearing from OSU who should let him know if they will offer in the next week.

Well, that was short lived. I am sure if the staff really wanted a FB in this class, we would have told him and he would hav waited. I take this to mean that the Will Compton's and Steve Greer's of this year aren't going to be offered/part of this class. Looks like we'll be waiting for a FB in 2009....

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz and offensive coordinator were reportedly in Cleveland for an in-home visit with Glenville Academy's Jermil Martin and snagged a verbal commitment from the 6-1, 230-pounder who also had scholarship offers from Wisconsin and West Virginia, HawkeyeReport.com reported. Martin played fullback and defensive end for Glenville and said he will likely start his Iowa career on defense.

"We really didn't talk about it that much," Martin told HawkeyeReport.com. "They just said I'm a football player and that's what they need in their program. They think I'm a good person to come in and help the team and that's what I want to do."

I sense the coaching staff has concerns about fullback next year and are trying to address that. Olson has been injury prone and we have no one else.
Martin looks versatile. All State as a D lineman!
Will we take 2 fullbacks?

Excellent prospect

Jermil Martin would develop into an outstanding fullback. Also is athletic enough to be in a 1-back offense at some times to carry for short yardage to get 1st downs or for pass blocking. He would have some versatility at the FB position due to his athletic ability. He will only get bigger, faster, stronger and better. IMO, he deserves an offer.

If Martin does earn an offer and come aboard, that would most likely halt the Mobley to H-Back talk. I admit to having never watched his film, but you guys make it sound like he'd be a great get.

mobley stays at DL...has too....martin looks like a good plugger...reminds me of curtis terry situation...late offer...not a lot of fanfare...from glenville....but terry has been solid for osu until he got hurt and will be in the mix next season
