RB Erik Haw (official thread)

Haw definitely ran with determination! He took a cut up the right side of the field only to find his route blocked by one of the freshmen linebackers, with no place to go he just lowered his shoulder and went flat out into the LB's chest! That was one thing that stuck in my mind. (Who was that LB if anyone could tell me? Couldn't see his number clearly since I was looking at Haw.)

I think it was Lukens. When I first saw it, i thought I saw #26 Youboty on the receiving end, but on viewing the replay, I believe it was #36 that got steamrolled.

You're right... everyone at my house was like "oooohhhh, oh my god was that Youboty?!?" then after the replay it was number 36.

Are you guys talking about the one where he ran over the dude on the right sidelines? If so, it was Curry, some DB wearing 86. Though Curry may be a walkon who doesn't even make it to summer ball, it was still an impressive run by Erik.

After watching the game again, I would have to say that both Haw and Pittman have improved dramatically and one thing I noticed was that they run with a purpose, they see the hole and hit it. Very different than what we went through with Lydell Ross (no offense), their running styles are different.

Since you brought up Lydell Ross, I'll continue the topic. I thought it was a problem with the O-line that was giving him troubles running the ball. It seemed that he was constantly fighting just to get back to the line of scrimmage. He'd be hit 3 yards back, break that tackle, then get hit another yard or two later, and MAYBE fall forward to the line.

But when Pittman was running, it seemed he did a lot better. (Didn't he end with a better yards per carry average?) So I began to think it wasn't the O-line, so much - it was Ross. I really liked Pittman last year, and I really liked how he and Haw played in the spring game this year. I don't think I care which of the two starts, because I think the two will see about the same amount of PT in most games. I think the two will give the offense the much-needed weapon to the running game to compliment the talented receivers and the passing game.

The only problem is that, neither are the answer to our problems yet..

Neither brings the wood every down as it seems.. they just haven't matured enough to stand out from the eachother yet.

The first real test will be Miami.

Can't wait.

You are right at this moment in time, because they haven't done it in a game, but if I had to bet money....I would say that we will have a two headed monster at running back this year.

I am still impressed by not how many yards they ran for, but how they ran the ball through the hole. Huge difference from our starter last year.

In my opinion, Haw looks like the threat we need at running back, he just needs game time now.

Guys,

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I believe the Lukens that made all the tackles was Curt. Curt Lukens is the scholarship safety that was a former LB'er. He looked pretty impressive from the safety spot. Also, the guy that Haw ran over was a walk-on and I do believe his number was 86.
