Rate a Position....Part 4..LB

Best: Rufus Alexander

Overrated: Paul Posluszny. I really hope he gets no postseason awards. He didn't deserve either of them last year and stole them from maybe the best Big-10 linebacker so far this decade.

Underrated: Earl Everret

Best: Rufus Alexander

Overrated: Paul Posluszny (he's very, very good, but he's not anywhere near as good as the media has given him credit for--his fame is due in large part to PSU's good year last year)

Underrated: Justin Warren

Biggest Thug: Rey Maualuga

Best- Mississippi's LB'r.

Over rated- Paul Pozloozly

Under rated- Both Vince Hall/ Xavier Adibi. Both of them don't get enough hype IMO. Who here has heard of these too (especally Vince Hall). They don't play great competition but they both can run very well, and both are gamers. I've been watchin Va Tech a lot over the years, and while I personally feel their program is very over rated due to their weak schedule. I also believe some of their players are very unrecognized.

Best: Patrick Willis, Ole Miss - 128 tackles, 3 sacks, 9.5 TFL, 4 broken up passes, 1 interception
He's a fast 6-2 and 230 pounds who was good enough to have been no worse than a second round NFL draft pick had he decided to leave early after dominating last season with five games of double-digit solo tackles (leading the nation in solo stops) and had double-digit stops in every game he was healthy except one; he made nine stops against Arkansas.

Overrated: Paul Posluszny, PSU

Underrated: H.B. Blades, Pitt - 121 tackles, 1 interception, 1 sack, 3.5 TFL, 6 broken up passes
Two-time All-Big East performer. He led the Big East with 121 tackles and was excellent in pass coverage after making the move from strongside to MLB. Hes the son of former Miami Hurricane star Bennie Blades has 286 career tackles with the range to anlways get to the ball and the size to make his presence recognized when hes there.

How is Rey Maualuga the biggest thug?

I hope this is a joke. Let's just say that it's not every day that you hear that a college LB allegedly punched someone in the face at a party and later claimed that he owns the police. I know you're a USC fan, but even I gave you enough credit that you'd realize such actions are ridiculous. Guess I was wrong...

Rey is not a thug. He was going through a difficult time as his father was dying of cancer. He got drunk and made a mistake.

If you think one incident makes Rey the biggest thug at LB in college football, you must think the rest of the linebackers in the country are a bunch of choirboys. I guess LB must be a beacon of straight-laced kids while every other position seems to be littered with criminals.

Best LB: Patrick Willis
Overrated: Posluzny(A very good player but I'm convinced he isn't near the level AJ Hawk was at as a sophmore, let alone as a senior. Not the best as all publications have him at.)
Underrated: Juwan Simpson Alabama(Overshadowed by Demeko Ryans)
- The Maulaga thing was a cheap-shot. So he made a mistake? I haven't heard of anything happening beyond that with him and everyone gets in a fight in some point of their life.

If I want any player on my team punching someone in the face, it's a linebacker. That was the best thing about Hawk, his take no shit attitude. The special teams play against Minnesota stands out the most to me. Hawk was getting his helmet pulled off and he still makes the tackle on the kick returner. After that play AJ got up ready to beat some ass. I guarantee if it wouldn't have cost his team 15 yards, some Golden Gopher would have eaten AJ Hawk's fist

I hear ya. I guess the question I beg to ask, who was freakin crazy enough to rip Hawk's helmet off? I remember that play but that would probably be the last dude on OSU's roster I would have wanted to do that to.

Paul Posluszny [Penn State] Gets the job done and was right there with A.J. Hawk [the best last year] in terms of almost everything.

*I dont see how anyone can put Paul Posluszny in overrated. This is a new year. If this was last year, I'm with you.

Alphabits was somewhere in between Schlegel and the two guys from Iowa last year. He didn't have the flexibility of playing down or up like Carpenter or the ability to play cover or rip heads off QBs that Hawk had and he had no where near the speed of either. I might add that PSU's Defense wasn't any worse the wear without him in the Orange Bowl game... nor was he the defensive standout in that game.
