This is a cousin of mine who is in the running for Ms Starsn& Stripes (link). Apparently, people can "vote" for the person of their choosing every day for free and vote additionally by paying.
I thought a few of you might like the picture, but I am curious as a marketing professor. Is this kind of thing popular? Do people really pay to vote in contests like this?

Port Elizabeth, which is where several National Geographic series are shot (e.g., Shamwari, Addo Elephant Park, Pumba, Kariega, Mountain Zebra, Wild Coast Sardine Run, etc.). Being a malaria-free area and relatively low cost have really boosted tourism in the area.
