Random Observations from A-Deck

MaxBuck

SoCal, Baby!
1. This year's seats in A-deck are farther from the field and farther past the endlines. So keep that in mind when reading the next few comments. (I'm also a year older with a year more feeble eyesight.)

2. Terrelle Pryor was at least as good as advertised. Not perfect, certainly, as we should have expected, but his ability to make the defense worry was evident. He is not as shifty as Vince Young was, but he seems perhaps more powerful, and his throwing motion is much more orthodox. He'll win a lot of games for the Buckeyes.

3. DeVier Posey and Lamaar Thomas both impressed, as did all three of the young linemen (Shugarts, Brewster, and Adams). Shugarts and Adams are visually frightening. Tall, strong and lean (for O-linemen), and each with a nasty streak.

4. Beanie atoned for his less-than-stellar showing against the Penguins last season. Now let's hope and pray his foot injury is a slight one. :yow2:

5. This team has one big problem -- it needs to figure out how to get the ball into the end zone. Only four TDs against a D1AA opponent? This is not a good sign.

6. Mo Wells looked better yesterday than I have ever seen him look. One terrific run and one excellent catch-and-run. Demotion to third (fourth?) string does not seem to have damaged his psyche.

7. I hope Lamaar Thomas was not injured; he was limping after his catch from Pryor, and I don't think I saw him after that.

8. Defense was, as we are now accustomed, awesome. SEC speed? We got it. Tyler Moeller is going to be hard to keep off the field this season, regardless of how good Ross Homan is.

Mo looked really good when he was in with Pryor. Can't really put too much weight on it, as he got his reps only in the 4th quarter, but Pryor and Mo played well together. Maybe all Mo needed to shine was the pistol formation.

I was really pleased with our tackling in the open field, even if it was Youngstown State I don't remember very many missed tackles regardless of how deep into the depth chart we had dug.

I was also curious as to whether anyone else that happened to be near the south stands happened to notice the band mysteriously carrying around an Oregon State cooler...somebody checked the wrong box on that order form, possibly the biggest mistake made this weekend
