Radar detectors and radar jamming devices are illegal in Virginia.
Open Container Laws
In Virginia, it is acceptable for passengers in a vehicle to drink alcohol as long as the driver is not drinking or impaired.

Heaven forbid you have a radar detector, but those 4 drunk asses with open containers won't be a distraction at all (Not to mention the heightened probability that the driver could just pass off his roadie and claim he hasn't been drinking)
Either way, 3 out of the 4 of us will be enjoying that part of the drive a little bit more this year, now that this law was brought to our attention. :tongue2:
(And back to the topic, I know nothing about radar detectors. Sorry, JO4H.)

'Way back when I worked in insurance, even in states where detectors were legal, insurance companies writing new policies could ask about it, and reject applicants from their best (cheapest) plans because of it, so people would end up being charged twice as much for having one without ever being told why. For existing policyholders in states where radar detectors were legal, the company couldn't non-renew for radar detectors, but if someone said they had one, or one came up on an accident or ticket report, the policy was immediately sent to underwriting to see if any other reason for non-renewal could be found.
i could stop driving to. or i could be a pansy like you and get a visor....Stop speeding.
which model did you get?The Bel STi is supposedly undetectable in use. So I guess you need to ask "are detectors illegal where you will be driving", and to factor the value of being able to use one and not get charged with having one by a radar detector detector.
Top of the line Valentine, Bel and Escort won't be that much different detection wise, so it comes down to price point and detectability in my opinion.
I use the Escort and like it just fine, but I bought it more out of necessity than an in-depth review of the product in Consumers Report. I'd spend the monthly join fee and see what they say.
