WestEnd

look ma no shoelaces, and I'm down with the KIIING
A few seasons back I had this idea that everytime I came across a great qoute about The Game, I would put it in this text file and keep it, hoping I would eventually have a great list of qoutes that would really fire me up for The Game.

Just so everyone can start to get their juices flowing, I'm gonna post some select ones that I really liked. If anybody has any others, post them here. It would be great to have a thread version of my text file. That we could refer back to every season to really get amped.

Here are what I think are some of the best, in no particular order. The players and their years are from when they said the qoute:

=======================================

“The whole year is getting ready for this game. It just builds up. It’s not like we talk about it all the time, but as the year goes on, it’s like every game we play is a scrimmage, getting ready for the Michigan game,”
-Adrien Clarke, OSU Senior Offensive Gaurd

“I haven’t touched a bench press since. But you could put a thousand pounds on there in pre-game warm-ups Saturday and I could lift it,”
-Branden Joe, OSU Junior FB (regarding his return to the lineup after injuring himself benching 485 lbs)

"Throughout the season, you always have the Michigan-Ohio State game in the back of your head, It's something you think about every week. It's really hard to explain --it's like something takes over your body, After the Northwestern game, running off the field, my face just lit up with a big smile, because I knew the time had finally come." "
- Carl Diggs, UM senior LB

"Because I couldn't go for three."
- Woody Hayes, former OSU coach (when asked why he went for a 2-point conversion after scoring a later 4th quarter TD in a 50-14 win over UM in 1968.)

"If you want to be recognized around here as a coach or a player, you beat Ohio State," he said. "That's what you're here for."
-Bo Schembechler, former UM coach.

"I wanted to see them all celebrating, because I wanted to live with it and remember it."
-Chris Perry, UM senior RB (when asked why he remained on the field in Ohio Stadium last year while fans rushed the field and celebrated ohio state's win over michigan)

"(The Game) is going to be the biggest thing in the world on saturday. There won't be 111,000 people in the same place anywhere else."
-Chris Perry, UM senior RB

"But for all players, the entire week has a different feel, from the scout team squad putting maize and blue tape on their helmets to the energy and buzz everywhere on campus. Everyone is wrapped up in the game and the excitement of Michigan-Ohio State week is unparalleled for a Buckeyes player. The best way to describe the anticipation is to compare it to Christmas Eve for a six-year-old who still believes in Santa Claus. It's tough to sleep after your parents put you to bed."
-Kirk Herbstreit, former OSU QB

"This isn't about the BCS Bowl, this isn't about a Big Ten title, it's about I don't care if we're 0-10 going into this game and it's our first win, that would be enough for us,"
-Bobby Carpenter, Senior LB

"As a youngster I kind of took the rivalry for granted, but as soon as I took my first hit in The Game, I understood what it was all about. This is a huge one. Anytime you face that team up north, you've got to come out with a win,"
-Troy Smith, Junior QB

Allen Krenzel: 'Aren't you nervous?'
Craig Krenzel: 'This is what I've worked for my whole life.' "
-A phone conversation between Craig and his father before the 2002 Michigan game.

Nice post here west end. My juices are always flowing with every game but this one is the Icing on the cake. But I must admit that i have mellowed over the years. I was worse when I was younger. Back in those days if you did not when the BIG10 you sat home and no bowl games at all. Only the grand/daddy of them all, the RoseBowl, was the reward for winning the Big10. Could any of you imagine going 9 and 0 having to win that last game to get to the RoseBowl ? I have lost much sleep over the years because of the last week of Ohio State versus Michigan.

But this year will be telling for Ohio State and Jim Tressel, if we can bring home a winner. The shoe will be on the other foot for Michigans Llyod Carr if he loses. Scum fans will be calling for his head and i would absolutely love that. For all those years we lost to Michigan under John Cooper would only be fitting and proper. Coop would love that I'm sure. But then again this is BIG10 football. Which is still one of the best Conferences in the country. Thanks to Ohio State and the other team up north.

(http://www.radiohio.com/1460thefan/Audio/TheBigShow4p-5p050427.mp3) (Braylon segment is at 23:00 into the broadcast)

BE: First and foremost, those Columbus fans, those Buckeyes, they know, they really know how to intimidate a team. Especially the young guys; they're very rowdy, they're very loud and they come out in an abundance. They are crazy from the start of the game on... (actually) the start of the week of the game, when you first come in and you are checking out the stadium you see all these people yelling at you, cussing at you, wearing that scarlet and gray, and they have that scarlet and gray in their eyes. Man this is more than a game, this is more than what I expected.

When the game starts and you run on the field and you hear the boos of 100,000 people... I mean it's crazy. Then Ohio State might get their first big play or touchdown... and man, I've never heard anything as loud as when Maurice Clarett came on the field. Now I know he might not be real high in columbus right now... but I've never heard anything as loud as when he came onto the field when we played in 2002 down at the Shoe and he had that 30 yard play, I've never heard anything that loud in my life. I couldn't hear myself think, I couldn't hear the playcalls, we were kinda guessing. And the last play of the game, when we ran all post routes and it got intercepted, that wasn't even supposed to be the play call. But it was so loud down there, Navarre couldn't hear, gave the wrong play call, and we ran the wrong route. And so it was an easy interception, so that's just an example of how it is down there.

Here's another one along with a quip from some article about Tressel obsession over The Game ....
--------------------------------------------------------------------
"The one thing I always take away from (Bruce) when he talks about Michigan is that great players play great against Michigan. If you don't play great against Michigan, you're not a great player."

- TE Ben Hartsock when he was a senior

--------------------------------------------------------------
Jim Tressel started the countdown on his first night as Ohio State's head football coach and he hasn't lost track since.
Any time of the year, ask him how many days remain until the Buckeyes' annual rivalry with Michigan and Tressel will provide the exact number.
A reporter mentioned Michigan to the coach last spring, and Tressel promptly said the game was 174 days away.
"We all have idiosyncrasies," he said. "Mine might be keeping track of that."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

To me, that probably explains in one line why Tressel's record will never be below .500 against *ichigan.

"My first memory of this game is sitting around at home and my dad and my uncles sitting around the TV and it's the Ohio State vs. Michigan game," said defensive end Mike Kudla.

This is what you live and die for," said Florida native Santonio Holmes

I'm bumping this because I haven't been the buckeye internet news fiend I used to be as work has kept me busy, but I still really think it would be cool to have a collection of qoutes about the game over the years. If anybody knows of some great ones to add in here, I'd very very much appreciate it, as there's nothing better than helping your fellow buckeye fan get AMPED for THE GAME.
