Mac

That's a pain in the buns
So as of late, whenever I have anymore than 3 tabs open in firefox, the comp practically becomes unresponsive. It happens often if I'm checking out someones pictures on facebook. It's very frustrating...could it be that I have too many processes running or what?

Thanks for the help

You can check your Task Manager to see if it's a system memory thing - Performance tab. If other things are slow, make sure you aren't running low on hard drive space.

If it is just Firefox that is slow, clean out Tools > Downloads and cache and such and see if it improves. Also check out the extension called "Memory Fox" or Google instructions for adding "trim on minimize" to your about:config.

I do all that and have still seen some lag following the last update, but it does seem to help.

Cache/downloads cleared.
Trim on minimize was put into place a while back.

Memory Fox for some reason im getting an error trying to install it. It's saying it's not a valid install package

I had the same problem, might I mention that my system is a quad core 3ghz with 16 gigs of ram, and still firefox would just eat memory like nobodys business, check out Chrome, it has a really nice task manager inside it so you can kill those windows that are consuming so much memory without having to kill your browser session all together.

Google Chrome (BETA)

I used to use Safari, got rid of it and I can't remember why. I'm currently redownloading it because I'm sick of firefox freezing. Hopefully it gets fixed. If not I'll try Chrome.

Must have been Firefox, because Safari has been working perfectly. I now remember one of the reasons why I stopped using safari...I can't use my laptops touch mouse to scroll down

It seems like every other version of FireFox has this issue.

Although oddly enough I'm not having this issue right now on either the laptop or the big computer.

You know if you're downloading too much pr0n it will freeze up your browser :p

OK, running Chrome on the Mac side now; will report my findings later.

(Later.) Well, it sure is fast. Almost SEC speed.

Yeah, I moved my wife over to Chrome for Ubuntu last night and that was her first observation, she was surprised how fast it loaded and how fast it loaded web pages, the addon community still has a ways to go, but otherwise, it's developing into a really nice product.
