Question for the Winslow Haters

My brother was reading this article to me earlier today and after he was done I was thinking the same thing,"is he a soldier too?" Both comments seem very inappropriate and don't really make either person seem very intelligent.

What a dumbass, and of course the NBA sportswriter goons like Smith and company are lining up to give him a free pass. At least Garnett owned up to it and said it was stupid. I can't remember honestly...did Winslow ever issue an apology?

Winslow always has been, is, and always will be a world-class arrogant punk ass. Garnett just said something stupid and tried to look like a bad-ass with his hood jargon. I didn't hear Garnett's tirade, but did he spew a ton of obscenities like Winslow did, and did he actually compare himself to a soldier like Winslow? The only thing I've seen is the excerpt, "I'm loadin' up the pump. I'm loadin' up the Uzi. I got a couple M-16s, a couple 9s. I got a couple joints with some silencers on them. I'm just loading clips ...", which is admittedly ridiculous but still nothing to what Winslow did.

No not clear. I saw that Winslow video at least 50 times, no exageration, 50 times. I didn't hear a PEEP about Kevin Garnett's comments untill I ran across something on the internet. Never mind the fact that Winslow's tirade came WHILE in the locker room not during a press conference or some kind of set up interview.

I'm not looking for winslow justification, I would just like someone to explain to me why KG is getting a (relatively) free pass while Winlsow and the University of Miami became America's whipping boy for at least two weeks and probably longer if the CU scandals didn't occur.

If you can't find any logic I would then like for you to admit one of the following;
People hate and envy the University of Miami and will exploit any blemish to mythic proportions to try to bring the program down;

White America hates affluent young black males and feels the need to make sure that just because a certian afro-american comes from a wealthy background they are still don't measure up to white american standards.

It's Game 7, man. That's it. It's for all the marbles," Garnett said. "Sitting in the house, I'm loadin' up the pump. I'm loadin' up the Uzi. I got a couple M-16s, a couple 9s. I got a couple joints with some silencers on them. I'm just loading clips, a couple grenades. I got a missile launcher with a couple of missiles. I'm ready for war."

How are Winlsow's comments way worse? <!--EZCODE BOLD END-->

wolf,

1. How does any "white America" stuff explain the difference between Garnett and Winslow, exactly?

2. People hate Miami....yes, many do, and bitterly particularly dating back to the 80's. People envy Miami...not so much, though some do because of the on-the-field success, I find it hard to believe that the same poeple who so derisively hate the Miami teams from the 80's want to be like them. Like it or not, and right or not, much of the attitude of the teams and players from the 80's still drives people's feelings towards Miami.

So, my interpretation is that people think this is out of character for Garnett, who apologized, specifically to veterans of combat, the next day, and freely admitted that he was thinking about "basketball, not reality". Winslow I don't remember making any such statement or retraction, and the fact that he played for Miami brought a lot of the ill feelings people have about the program back to the forefront...AKA "Same old Miami Assholes". Again, right or not, this is my interpretation of the difference.

On a side note, I really liked Brad Miller's tongue-in-cheek reply to Garnett on Sportscenter: "Yeah, well I'll bring my shotgun, my fuckin' pickup truck and 4 wheelers and run over his ass. Whatever."

The difference is one as seen as a kid that comes from wealth/suburbia and the other is just another brotha from around the way. The affluent kid gets his a-hole ripped from media coverage, tha brotha gets a free pass.

Did you even listen to the radio yesterday? KG was ripped from 4 AM to 6 PM on local and national radio. To say he got a free pass is ridiculous. I don't know about ESPN as I never turned the TV on yesterday, but he did get his for those ignorant comments.

If I believed for one second that Garnett was in any way deliberately disrespecting our armed services, I might consider being somewhat offended, at which point I would take a long, hard look in the mirror and realize I was overreacting.

Then why did you start this thread?
I would just like someone to explain to me why KG is getting a (relatively) free pass
Why ask us? Ask the media who starts this crap.

Please don't stereotype all white Americans. Blacks don't like it. Neither do whites.

That's ridiculous. Maybe I don't represent all of "white America", but here's what I think (and I'd guess many others do, as well).

It's not "white American standards" that anyone's worried about, it's American standards. Many of these "affluent young black males" making millions run around like thugs, incapable of responsibility or the respect for the positions or status they hold and the money they make. These guys need to realize that as a man with a job it's not important that you "keep it real" or "look cool" by carrying a gun, beating women or using drugs.

American standards (however loosely defined they may be) require you to follow the law, take responsibility for your actions, take your job seriously, and respect other people, among other things. Many of these guys don't give a damn about any of this, as long as they're doing what they want and looking cool on Sportscenter.

And before you flip over the race card, keep in mind that A) the subset of people we're discussing (athletes) is mainly black, and B) if they were white, I'd expect them to follow the same guidelines.
