Quarterback Class of 2008

Back in April, collegefootballnews.com previewed the top pro prospects at each position for the 2008 season. Below are the senior quarterbacks, and their overall ranking on the list (which was dominated by juniors and 3rd-year-sophomore Sam Bradford. I added a little blurb next to each showing the highlights of their season.

4. Curtis Painter, Purdue - 52.6% completion pct., 2 TDs, 2 INTs on the season.
7. Cullen Harper, Clemson - 2 TDs, 2 INTs vs. BCS teams, didn't show up vs. Bama.
10. Hunter Cantwell, Louisville - 46.5% completion pct., 0 TDs, 3 INTs in 2-27 rout by Kentucky.
14. Graham Harrell, Texas Tech - Huge numbers. System QB.
15. Todd Boeckman, Ohio State - Lost his starting job, 'nuff said.
16. Rudy Carpenter, Arizona State - Team got upset by UNLV.
17. Chase Daniel, Missouri - Heisman caliber QB. Might be the best of the bunch. 6-flat height measurement might be generous.
19. Willie Tuitama, Arizona - Team got upset by New Mexico.
20. Chase Holbrook, New Mexico State - 50% completion pct, 0 TDs, 2 INTs in 1 game this year.
22. Tom Brandstater, Fresno State - 51% completion pct, 1 TD, 1 INT on the season.
24. Mike Teel, Rutgers - 57% completion pct, 1 TD, 5 INTs in team's 0-2 start.
25. Stephen McGee, Texas A&M - 0 TDs, 2 INTs on season. Both INTs in team's loss to Arkansas State.

There's never been a senior QB class this bad. You have to go back to 2001 to find a draft where no senior QBs were taken in the 1st round, and that year Drew Brees was taken with the 1st pick of the 2nd round.

This year you could easily see the top senior QB slide into the 3rd round. I don't know if that's ever happened in the history of the NFL before, but I'd bet there's a pretty decent chance it hasn't.

So I guess the question is who will be the 1st senior QB taken in this year's draft, and what round will it be in?

I said Harrell in the 3rd... doubtful... but for a system qb he does have the measurables unlike most.

Curtis Painter..first round.

Talent at Purdue is not good. Not much to work with.

Last year Purdue had the most prolific receiver in their university's history and a first round draft pick at tight end. Painter does not impress me.

if youre a decent qb with measurablesdont go to a big name school
go to a mediocre school, get #s and your draft status is crazy good (*cough* alex smith)

For all those thinking Curtis Painter is a first round pick:

Tiller benched Painter in the fourth quarter of last Saturday's 20-6 loss to Penn State, and backup quarterback Joey Elliott led the Boilermakers to their only touchdown. Painter leads the nation's quarterbacks with 37 consecutive starts, but that string appeared to be in jeopardy after Saturday's performance.

If I had to guess again, I'd go with Harrell in round 2.

Here's a name for you guys...Rhett Bomar. People forget him but he is going to play in the Under Armor Senior bowl. I think that combined with a good combine performance the character doubts can be erased. He was wowing people before the whole car dealership debacle, and I think that he will leap up the ranking boards before it's all said and done. When it happens you all will forever remember my name...lol got carried away.

Oh and he's not on here but Pat White. Won't be drafted as a QB, but I think he'll come off the board before all these guys to be honest.
