QB1 Will Howard (National Champion)

Speaking as one who's had waaaay more than his share of concussions/near concussions, various stingers, etc and insisted on continuing to play, even when you think you're fine and can play through it, performance suffers even if you don't realize it in that moment. Not suggesting that he should've been pulled as I have no knowledge as to the specifics, but it seemed clear to me that his play after that hit was something more and/or different than just having a bad game against a good defense.

I think you’re spot on here. I also wonder if there wasn’t some level of the calls being altered to account for it. There was a LOT of blame thrown at Chip / Day for calling a bad game. I’m not sure which explanation Occam would agree with, but I tend to believe that two of the best offensive minded coaches in the business didn’t suddenly, and without explanation, lose their nerve.

It feels to me much more like they knew that he was not 100% and the coaches had to adjust the game plan on the fly. The coaches did their job to (rightfully) absorb the criticism after the game. At least that’s what fits my narrative…
