QB1 Will Howard (National Champion, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Will had a very solid playoffs but very average regular season.

I don’t think that’s even arguable. He’s a 3rd/4th rd pick IMO. Don’t think he’s ever a regular NFL starter but hope I’m wrong.

I always said…..Will is the better college QB, Kyle McCord is likely the higher upside NFL QB. I stand by that.
spoiled by stroud, fields, haskins, etc.....

I thought Howard was very good in the regular season. Especially with what they allowed him to do. Arguably OSU's offense is much more complex than KSU, and he needed to be baby stepped along the way.

As to The Game, he was probably hurt, and we all know that the conservative play calling wasn't really his fault.

I think if given the chance, Howard can be a very good NFL qb. He has the intangibles that rise above pure arm strength as well.

Of course I am no expert, but I don't see any reason why Howard cannot succeed in the NFL. Especially seeing the cornucopia of mid QB's currently playing in the NFL.

As to McCord, he is type of player who has the arm strength, and teams fall in love with in the draft season, and will probably be a low mid QB based upon what we all saw in a more complex offense when he played at OSU. The old upside trap that NFL teams fall into. How many picks did he throw against Pitt again? I have to give him credit for gaining a little swagger at Syracuse that he was missing at OSU.

Will played in a very college-style system at KSU. I agree that the current hype on him is excessive and I'm unconvinced, at this point, that he has the arm talent or ability to consistently throw guys open to be a long-term starter in the league. That said, he does appear to be a worker, he certainly improved over the course of the season in a more NFL-like system, and, with the right coaching (which is hugely important and luck of the draw for any QB in the NFL) he might be able to develop both a better arm and, with experience see the field better and get the ball out quicker. I see him as a ten-year clipboard holder, spot starter who's great to have in the locker room, but that might not be his ceiling if he gets lucky with who drafts him. I don't really have an opinion other than "meh" on McCord.

The projections I've seen for him are 3rd or 4th round (somewhere in QB # 6-10).
Before last year, he was projected as a 5th rounder, so his push up the draft was relatively small.
I don't see that much hype - lots of people talking about him, but not much talk of 1st or 2nd round (maybe McAfee, but he's a clown).

If you think about it he’s not much different than a certain TCUN QB who won a bunch of titles.

Decent arm strength, great accuracy, study’s the game, processes fast, and most especially is one fiery guy.

In both loses Will was red hot. Borderline rude.

But that’s how your QB should act.

I’m going to be rooting big time for Will wherever he goes. Unapologetically he’s maybe my favorite buckeye I’ve watched which is weird since he’s been here only 1 year. It’s a combination of how good he was, how well he represented the school, how furious he was to lose, but most importantly how he commanded the team.

Seriously go back to day 1 when we got him… I knew he could put us over the top having watched him play a ton at K State. No clue why but I just knew. Sure he was talented but he just wins man.

But he’s a better person than I knew. If we ever have to ask “who should we clone” as a QB it’s Will Howard. The guy wasn’t elite at most things (although he was great at many) but what he was elite at was being a leader. This guy was a leader. We’ll miss him and personally I think he’ll win a Super Bowl one day.

I’ve seen a bunch of buzz in the early rounds. Anywhere from 1-341

I can confidently say this, and it's probably more damning of NFL front offices (particularly the Vikings)

Will is a better processer and passer, in a much more advanced offense, than what JJ McCarthy was this same time last year. McCarthy went first round.

Like I said, what that speaks to the decision making from NFL brass. I honestly tend to question their sanity or, at bare minimum, their gullibility.

But McCarthy threw it just as our DB was about to turn around which was definately skill and not dumb luck that should have been picked like Maryland the week before
