Terrelle Pryor takes Raiders' No.1 QB reps

It's game week. The Oakland Raiders have no choice but to show their hand as to how they will approach the quarterback and left tackle positions in Sunday's season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
Terrelle Pryor took the first-team snaps at practice Monday, according to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune. Matt Flynn missed practice last week with a "sore arm," but he wasn't listed as one of the players who didn't suit up on Monday. Pryor was expected to be the Week 1 starter throughout last week, and his rough preseason finale apparently didn't change that.

Terrelle Pryor was first up when the Raiders broke the huddle and went to the line for their first drill Monday, but coach Dennis Allen declined to name a starting quarterback for the regular-season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
“I’m sure all of you have your questions on who the starting quarterback is going to be and what we’re going to do there,’’ Allen said following practice. “I’m really not going to get into that for competitive reasons.
“We’ve got a plan. Unless we start out in the Wildcat we’ll have a quarterback out there the first snap of the game. We’ll just leave it at that.’’
Pryor politely declined comment in the locker room and Matt Flynn was not available for comment.

Terrelle Pryor to start season-opener Sunday
Terrelle Pryor has been named the Raiders starting quarterback for the season-opener on Sunday, according to two league sources. Coach Dennis Allen told both Pryor and Matt Flynn his decision Monday morning and said he wasn’t going to say whom he chose for competitive reasons.
Flynn was the starter throughout training camp but struggled in the third preseason game on Aug. 23, throwing two interceptions in six passes and fumbling once against the Bears. The Raiders were willing to coach around Flynn’s lack of a strong arm in exchange for his “game manager” skills but Flynn’s play and the Oakland fans’ boos that night obviously jarred them.
Pryor came in to loud cheers and led four scoring drives and then started the preseason finale last Thursday while Flynn rested a sore arm.
Pryor actually started the last game of the 2012 season for the Raiders for an injured Carson Palmer, but Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie then traded for Flynn from Seattle to be the starter.
This is the second straight year that Flynn lost his starting job before the season, as rookie Russell Wilson beat out the free-agent signee in Seattle. Flynn is guaranteed $6.5 million from the Raiders this season.
Pryor, late owner Al Davis’ last draft pick in 2011, has improved his throwing mechanics but won the job because of his play-making ability with his feet. He was 14-of-24 for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception this preseason, but ran the ball 11 times for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Terrelle Pryor proves elusive both on, off field

ALAMEDA -- Evasive action is a big reason why Terrelle Pryor is expected to be the starting quarterback when the Raiders open the regular season, and it was a skill he needed in verbal sense Wednesday.
"I'm preparing like I always do to be the starter," Pryor said. "Coach told the team that he's addressed you guys about the situation. He doesn't want me talking about it. Let coach answer that."
With all signs pointing toward Pryor as quarterback against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, coach Dennis Allen is firm in the belief that not naming the starter gives him a possible competitive advantage.
"If I didn't think there was, I wouldn't do it," Allen said.
When the Raiders took the field Wednesday in the portion of practice open to the media, Pryor went through drills with the first team, although if Allen wanted to carry the shell game to the extreme, Matt Flynn could have emerged with the first group once reporters left the premises.
"We have a plan, and I've addressed where we're at and what I'm doing with the quarterback situation," Allen said. "We have to move on from that and one will play when we go out there on Sunday."
